Me and Mick The Pirate just saw Sammy at the Tweeter 7/1/06.
Now we are getting ready for JB at the Tweeter on 8/1/06.
We go to Cancun twice a year and have visited Margaritaville down there and in the US.
Point being, Sammy is the "heavier version" of JB.
Sammy and JB both have the same tropical mentality which I think both fan bases have helped to create.
But let's remember it was JB who started this entire tropical lifestyle for his fans, the PH/BN nation.
Were it not for JB, who weathered the storm of never winning an award of any kind or getting the recognition he deserved for decades.........
Sammy's "tropical career" and his Cabo Wabo Cantina and Cabo Wabo Tequila would most probably have never happened.
Sorry if that was more than 2 cents.
Once again, just wanted to say I agree with most of the feelings on this topic.
But by no means is Sammy the "new JB".
Sammy is Sammy.
JB is JB.
As for Mr. Chesney, I'm not a fan, but if it took involvement on his part to FINALLY get JB some long overdue recognition and an award, so be it!!!
I think Alan Jackson's recording of "Five O'Clock Somewhere" and its heavy rotation on CMT had more to do with than Cheeseney's singing on "License to Chill" which came out later. Buffett has said that when he was at one of the goat-roper award shows, he had a chance to ask the folks who guested on LTC if they wanted to be involved. Given that it involved spending time in KW during the winter, and they could see the success of 5 O'clock, it wasn't a hard sell. A really cynical type could even say that Jimmy saw the chance to put together a 1997 Marlins-type album and took it.

Ringling,
You are right on about Alan Jackson too!!!!!!!!!
It was the entire CMT circuit that has finally brought JB a little more "mainstream".
And the market's proven it's big enough for more than one. That said, Sammy's ticket prices are nice, but no way can he support the ticket prices Jimmy can...and for the number of dates Jimmy's playing, it looks like he's hit the top end of his range for pavilion seats....

"Reading departure signs in some big airport reminds me of the places I've been"

JB sure deserves it though!
You can tell the country side of things is spreading. Sammy does a version of Halfway to Memphis on Livin' It Up! The song was first on his Not4Sale CD, released in 2002.
I compared the two tracks last night and the new one is certainly more country.
Maybe my friend that likes Sammy (he's headed to Cabo next week) will finally see that a tad bit of country is OK. Then maybe I could get him to try a couple Jimmy tunes and voila! we'd have another parrothead.
I'm just tryin' to get by being quiet and shy,
In a world full of pushin' and shove.
I just saw Sammy Hagar a few weeks ago on a sweltering night in Kansas City. It's amazing the energy he has for a man of his age. He doesn't stand still for a second while on stage. And the idea of putting a limited number of his fans on stage with him is genius. I had the priviledge of being on stage with him a few years back and it was one of the best nights of my life.
I think he puts on the funnest show in rock today!

The whole Cabo Wabo Cantina effect.. it was pretty spiff here in CMH on this year's tour too
