Abreu to the Yankees

ESPN is reporting Bobby Abreu has been dealt to the Yankees. Not sure how I feel about it yet, as I don't know the deatails.

nobody, 3 OFers, 1 DH and Giambi plays first.

lol true. I just haven't heard the whole deal yet. Didn't hear about Lidle but knew it was a possibility. If you can add a bat like Abreu's, you have to.

Yankees have tentative deal for Abreu, Lidle

The Philadelphia Phillies and New York Yankees have a tentative deal to send Phillies right fiedler Bobby Abreu and pitcher Cory Lidle to New York ESPN.com's Jayson Stark and ESPN The Magazine's Buster Olney reported Sunday.

Stark reported the Yankees will send 20-year-old minor-league shrotstop C.J. Henry -- their No. 1 pick in 2005 -- and 27-year-old left-handed reliever Matt Smith. The Phillies will also pick one other minor-leauge player from an agreed-upon list, while the Yankees will take on responsibility for Abreu and Lidle's contracts. Abreu is owed $15 million for 2007 alone.

Abreu is hitting .277 with 8 home runs and 65 RBI in 99 games. He has a career batting average of .301 with 198 home runs and 841 RBI over 10 seasons.

Lidle, a right-hander, is 8-7 with a 4.74 ERA in 21 starts in 2006. In eight seasons he has a career mark of 78-69 with a 4.54 ERA.

Abreu was in the Phillies' starting lineup Sunday but was pulled for Shane Victorino 10 minutes before their game with the Florida Marlins.

.277 batting avergae, 8 homeruns and 65 Rbi's = $15,000,000... just another typical Yankee pickup. Let's see just how high the payroll can get

I'm liking the trade. He leads the league in OBP (which is about 10x as important as BA) and I don't think he has to hit HRs to be productive, although Tino Martinez thinks that he could very well have a resurgence with the short porch in right.

No one loves Tino more than me but he is God Awful on "Baseball Tonight". He looks so nervous all the time. Bring back HR ( Damn those "Hugs")

Sox don't have a problem spending the 15 million, they just chose more wisely as to what they spend that 15 million on.

They guy has been playing baseball in a softball field all season and he only has 8HR's. He will be getting bood by Labor Day.

Now wait a second. Let me propose something to you. Would you take a third baseman who's hitting .280 with 22 HRs, 74 RBIs, 73 runs, .386 OBP, and a .573 SLG? I know Lowell has exceeded expectations and has been a very serviceable 3B in Boston but I'd still take A-Rod.

Given A-Rod isn't going to win MVP this year, but by the end of the year he's still going to end up with 35-40 HRs and over 100 RBIs and runs scored. I don't know what more to expect from him, other than a few less errors, and I don't know why he gets booed. If he was playing like Giambi was last year after "losing 4 pounds by not eating fast food" then they would have a point.

I'm sorry that I'm one of the last Yankee fans still cheering the guy on.
