My keet 8 has a friend 8 sleeping over, I'm in the middle of making jello shots for Tuesday, his friend asks for one my son quickly jumps in "no there's alcohol in them" his friends asks what's that? My son states "it's a chemical used by adults to make them feel indifferent towards their surroundings and other people" :o I can't wait to open this discussion with him after his friend leaves tomorrow to see exactly what he means, whether it's something he learned through school or it's his own personal viewpoint which doesn't sound very healthy :-? What do you think???

His friend has had the same teachers as my son for the past several years and they are both very smart so if he learned it in school his friend would also have the same knowledge :-?

Maybe you or his mom told him it was something adults do and he found the rest on a MADD site or something?

that is pretty much the craziest thing for an 18yo to say. He must have heard it somewhere. It sounds like something my college sons would say, joking.
Later you'll laugh about this.

explain to him that Mommy and Daddy drink only because he's a bad boy. If he were better, you'd stop.

that oughta be good for years of therapy when he's older... :D:D:D

Not many 8 year olds would have the concept of indifference and substance use connected without education on the matter. RR mentions therapy later . . . I'd have this talk now!

I think you need to find out the source of his info as well as enroll him in advances classes..... especially if he is using words like indifferent and surroundings at the age of 8! :o

have the talk about how mommy and daddy drink because he's bad now. let him get the therapy for chronic over-achievement compensation and to get the stick out of his butt because he's no fun when he's 40. :D

While his friend was in the shower this morning I pulled him aside and we talked a bit, he learned this in school, he left out when "consumed in excess", his friend was vacationing in Disney World. :D

Both he and his friend are in the PACE classes 8) he was born as an old man in a young persons body, when the second one came we learned what a infant and toddler really is :o Tomorrow will be his 4th Buffett concert so he knows how to play also

I should say so! My 14-y-o son wouldn't talk like that. :o

When he was little and wanted a sip of what we were drinking, we'd just say, "It has bad strawberries in it." That was enough! (He made up that phrase from the taste of cough syrup.) :D

Forget the psychologist. Get the kid drunk. He'll learn what alkyhaul is all about!
