Castro
CNN is reporting that Castro has temporarily turned over power to his brother while he undergoes intestinal surgery.
I'm thinking it's possible it's more then this.

several weeks..... sounds serious....Castro's secretary, Carlos Balenciago, read a letter he said was from the president in which he said stress had forced him into surgery and that he would be in bed for several weeks after the operation was complete.

Atleast the storm is supposed to get to Fla(if it does) late in the weekend, so maybe I'll just have to get stuck in the Keys...oh darnSchoolGirlHeart wrote:The storm is worth worring about....longlinergirl wrote:Yeah I'm sure...that or the tropical storm thats out there either.SchoolGirlHeart wrote:Shouldn't bother your trip to KW.longlinergirl wrote:OMG, and just as I am getting ready to go to Key West...

I don't know. The only thing i can figure is the brother is 75yo. If castro was gone they're one step closer to having them out of there.I thought i had heard of somebody else who was next in line and more moderate.Have you seen the pictures of the Cuban people riding the streets and celebrating in Fla.? If the brother is more of a harda**, then why are they celebrating? I don't get it!?

It's probably just the anti-Castro sentiment coming out... they likely didn't take the time to think maybe the Cubans would be worse off with the brother...PackPhanGirl wrote:Have you seen the pictures of the Cuban people riding the streets and celebrating in Fla.? Have you read the Text of proclamation written by Castro...aired on Cuban radio? http://www.miami.com/mld/miamiherald/15170980.htm
Living in Fl... Castro has always been in the news here... however after reading this proclamation.... it amazes me that everyone in Cuba doesnt jump on a boat and head for the hills....

I don't claim to be an authority on such matters, just restating what they were saying on the news this morning. Back during the revolution, Raul (the brother) was supposedly a real hardliner, one report saying he was the "executioner" in the aftermath of the revolution. But they went on to say that, in recent years, he has supposedly been lobbying for economic reforms, leading some to think he may have moderated his stances as he has gotten older.PackPhanGirl wrote:Have you seen the pictures of the Cuban people riding the streets and celebrating in Fla.? Don't party without me[About] the 80th anniversary of my birth, which thousands of people so generously agreed to celebrate next Aug. 13, I beg all of you to postpone it until Dec. 2 of this year, the 50th anniversary of the landing of the Granma.

We need to get over the Cuba thing. The rest of the world has. You can fly to Cuba from just about any non-US port. There are some really nice tourist destinations already. So they are communist, so is China, I don't see the US having any embargos against china. Heck, we have made piece with Viet Nam. If we opened a dialog with Cuba perhaps we could prevent another Haiti from occuring.
It was 90 miles to freedom but they took the risk . . .ToplessRideFL wrote:Have you read the Text of proclamation written by Castro...aired on Cuban radio? http://www.miami.com/mld/miamiherald/15170980.htm
