Go figure! :D
well....
1st some people think regular drinks are too sweet tasting
and
2nd some of us are diabetic. And being a diabetic doesn't mean you can't have a Whopper combo at BK
:) :) :) Good point. Except we diabetics are supposed to avoid redmeat. :D

And I did quit drinking diet drinks, sweet tea and all juices (OJ, apple), and yes, I've lost weight!

You do not want to know what to!

If you do research.
Now I'm curious and a little lazy :D Help me out here
At higher temps it begins to break down (the reason Nutrasweet isn't good for cooking). A small percentage breaks down into methanol, which in turn converts into formaldehyde. (Although keep in mind that it does the same thing inside your body as your digestive system processes it.)
I know I can't tolerate Nutrasweet (aspartame), but since being diagnosed pre-diabetic, I've steered clear of candy. I just started trying sugar-free candy like Werther's Original.

At the risk of being terribly crude....I found it gives me VERY stinky gas... I wonder if this is Formaldehyde??? Needless to say, I don't eat them anymore, or only if I'll be alone for the evening!

Most likely it's the maltitol in the sugar-free candy making things so stinky and free-flowing. If you eat too many of them, you won't be able to leave the bathroom for a while. Just ask me and the bag of sugar-free Lifesavers.

Absolutely Moonie, diabetics should not ingest light products, but they are still a welcome alternative to full sweetened products.

If your interested in doing some research, look into syndrome X.

I'm a practicing nutritionist for 20..no make that 21 years. We go by the guidelines the Federal Govt has set out..and they're right on target...

try as we may, todays children (for the majority) are not getting healthy nor nutritious meals. too much sugar and too many fried foods.

Not all diabetics are the same. I still eat a nice sized meals and what not. I do go out to Golden Corral and Ryans and eat off the dessert bar. I do go to BK and eat Whoppers. And I do enjoy a 6 pack of Miller Lite. But I also go to the gym and work out 1-1.5 hours a day, 4-5 days a week. When I found out I was a diabetic in January 04, my levels was 498. 6 months later I was holding around 150 @ 7.0 and taking 1 10mg pill per day. Since then my levels have been 110-130 @ 5.7-6.0. And as of 6 months ago NO meds.

Mean while a co-worker of mine has certain foods like corn and potatoes that he has to avoid religiously. But they do noy bother me.

My point is not all diabetics are the same. And I'm not saying I can do what I want forever. But a whopper hasn't killed me yet!

that is so very very true, Side..and juvenille diabetes is extremely difficult to control because of the metabolism. It's never the same and may change several times during one day.

You are fortunate in that your body seems to have adjusted well to the medication and your treatment can stay about the same, and you seem to be able to consume just about what you want, within limits, I'm sure.

The fact that you can take your insulin orally instead of injection means that your body probably produces some insulin on it's own. 150 is the magic number for most adults.

others, unfortunately, are not so lucky.

That is soo true. And one day, I know I will probly have to tighten up my diet even more. And I do know there a lot of people who are basically a ticking time bomb with sugar. My gramdma and aunt both died due to Diabetic complications. And they didn't watch their diet, so I saw what happens if a person doesn't do the right thing.

There also is the suggestion that the makers of Nutrasweet( Aspartame) were responsible for the ban of Stevia. A plant derived natural sweetener. Now there is a sweetener that isn't bad. If you need to do a sugar substitute!
Only of the amateur variety. :D
