I'm not sure he exactly qualifies for the title of "Dad." And it's the first time he's called me outside of Christmastime to spend our obligatory afternoon together, in 10 years.

Next time you talk to him, ask "What was your name again?" Just so he knows the feeling...

That's a good point.

The reason for his call was that his brother's wife is putting together a family tree. It's no small undertaking as my dad is the oldest of 16 children.

The question that really put me over the edge was he asked for my daughter's middle name (Josephine) which was also his mom's name (and my daughter's namesake). I picked 'cause grandma died when I was pregnant with her.

He just said, "Oh really?" :x :x :x :x :x

Know what I think??

I think we're cousins....because your dad and my mother HAVE to be related.....and just forgot somewhere along the line...

She always told us when she died we'd find out this BIG secret....which never happened....

Perhaps that's it! Your father is her brother!

Problem solved.

Can relate. My father wouldn't know my birthday or middle name either. He wouldn't know any of my kids. My parents live ten minutes from me and I see them, well almost never. This year I actually didn't get my father a father's day or b'day card. I feel bad about it. I was busy and then out of town. But he's skipped my birthday every year since forever.
