one particular harbor...

Post by rogue »

is one of my favorite songs. I just have one question, does anyone know the translation to the portuguese portion of the song? After all these years it would be great to know what I am singing.

It's actually Hawaiian (Polynesian)

Someone else is probably going to correct me, but I think its (Polynesian is rather a "flowery" language, subject to many interpretations)

The sea and the land, join in union to celebrate... or something to that nature :)

I got this off of cobo . . .

One Particular Harbor
Tahitian.
Nature lives (life to nature)
Have pity of the earth (love the earth)
The bounty of the land is exhausted
But there is still abundance in the seas

and this at the end...

Ua pau te maitai no te fenua [Bounty of the land is exhausted]
Te zai noa ra te ora o te mitie [But there's still abundance in the sea]
Ua pau te maitai no te fenua
Te zai noa ra te ora o te mitie
Gentilly ... 42 years is a long time to wait .... a Northeast Texas woman can hope.
My love is an anchor tied to you, tied with a silver chain.

That is the correct translation. If you have seen "Tales from Margaritavision" there is a video and at the end the translation runs similar to credits of a movie, and that is what it says. Just thought you'd like to know!!

PHINS UP!!
We sailed from the port of indecision
Young and wild with oh so much to learn
Days turn into years as we tried to fool our fears, But to the port of indecision I returned.

I wanted the translation for them both, actually. I remember a conversation you and I had and must have confused the song we were talking about at the time. The conversation took place on the way home from an outing and it was late night/ early morning, years ago. Some where over that time I assumed Jimmy had used the same language in both songs. MY BAD.
