Direct TV
I came here first because I'm sure someone on here knows the answer. I'm interested in getting Direct TV for only one reason... NFL Sunday Ticket. Since I don't live close to my bar anymore it's going to be hard for me to catch all the Dolphins games that are not televised in the Boston area. Is there anyway possible for me to buy the hardware and purchase the Sunday ticket without purchasing a basic package (I've seen direct tv and I'm not a big fan)? Assuming I can't does anyone know how long of a contract I would need to sign for just a basic package? Their website is very confusing

I've had directv for a while now ( when the yanks first started the YES Network, the loval cable company decided not to carry it so just about all yankee fans moved to Directv). Knowing what I do about you, that probably won't be a selling point.
Anyway, Cable now has YES but I liek DirecTV alot., I don't remember signing any contract but I'm guessing it would be no more than a year. The NFL package is fantastic though and totally worth it.

Re: Direct TV
Does your cable company not offer a similar package? I know that in my area, Charter has a football package on their digital cable plan.RAGTOP wrote:Is there anyway possible for me to buy the hardware and purchase the Sunday ticket without purchasing a basic package (I've seen direct tv and I'm not a big fan)?

You probably need to call direct tv. I have direct tv and love it, this will be the first time I have had Sunday Ticket.
Direct has a great deal for sunday ticket right now $70/month for 4 months which includes a ton of channels, dvr and sunday ticket and installation.
Sunday ticket by itself is $249.
I signed up with direct tv in Feb 06, if I cancel my 2 year contract and send equipment back, I get out with no cost. That changed in March though, they now pro-rate the equipment and contracts are usually two years. If you purchase the equipment you might be able to get out, not sure, you just need to call--also if you know who installs the systems in your area you could call them and ask.
The cost of install and receiver(s) is what is going to cost the most, I noticed direct tv offers a $29.99 package now, no matter what you decide you can always downgrade your programming at any time. So you can add/remove channels without penalty. Hope this helps.

Thanks. I saw that package on their website and seems like a pretty good deal. I figure the Dolphins will have 5 nationally televised games which means I will have to go to the bar 11 times. I usually spend $30 on drinks/food during the game which means I will spend $330 over the season at the bar. Sunday Ticket will be cheaper and this is the angle I'm taking with the wifejbirdbuc wrote:You probably need to call direct tv. I think he might be referring to NFL on Demand which only allows you to watch highlights of the games after they are over.job41475 wrote:NFL package is exclusive to DirecTV.land_shark3 wrote:Does your cable company not offer a similar package? See I thought he meanr the ESPN GamePlan for College football. If it is the ON Demand thing then that makes sense.RAGTOP wrote:I think he might be referring to NFL on Demand which only allows you to watch highlights of the games after they are over.job41475 wrote:NFL package is exclusive to DirecTV.land_shark3 wrote:Does your cable company not offer a similar package? Elrod can see his Bears, and I can watch my Broncos.
Guessing that won't happen anytime soon, or ever. But that would be cool.
