New York Hotel Rates
... are astronomical for the night of the concert (9/14). Many of the Manhattan hotels are quoting $400 - $600 per night.
Anyone have any suggestions besides sleeping in the park?

Stay at Larry's house and ride the train with him.CTParrothead763 wrote:... are astronomical for the night of the concert (9/14). Many of the Manhattan hotels are quoting $400 - $600 per night.

It's your world, I'm just living in it!
I live in Bergen County - 10 miles from Manhattan. I usually drive to Weehawken and take the Ferry across the river. They provide a shuttle to Madison Square Garden that drops you off a block away. There are a few hotels in Weehawken - Sheraton Suites On The Hudson is one that comes to mind. I think they have a shuttle that goes to the Ferry Terminal.
You can also stay in Secaucus which is a five minute bus ride or drive to the Lincoln Tunnel (also close to ferry). I used to work at The Plaza at Harmon Meadow. There are several hotels and restaurants in the complex including a Cheeseburger in Paradise. Heres a link for info:
http://www.harmonmeadow.com/pages/plazameadowpage.html
This website lists options for transportation into the city, hotels, restaurants, and shops. There is a map of the complex so you can see what's there and the NJ Turnpike (95) runs right through it so it is easy access from everywhere.
If you decide to take the ferry, before SOSOAS when Jimmy mentions those who might have sailed to the show you can yell!!

Do you work for any type of government? Sometimes the rates are REALLY cheap. Of course you can't go too cheap in NYC. Too Cheap can = Very Scary!CTParrothead763 wrote:... are astronomical for the night of the concert (9/14). Many of the Manhattan hotels are quoting $400 - $600 per night.

There are some of the cheaper ones I found. There are cheaper rooms, but they have shared bathrooms!
Check all the travel sites the Monday brfore the show, the rates should go down.

I mentioned in another post - I will be staying at The Comfort Inn. It is on 36th and only a few blocks to MSG. The nightly rate was just shy of $200. I looked at all of the major travel sites (expedia, hotels.com, etc). I went directly to the comfort inn's website, which i believe is choicehotels.com
They have a continental breakfast and 24 hrs. of parking was $17.00!!!
Good luck. NYC is brutal with room rates.

My occupational hazard is - my occupation's just not around.

My wife was recently offered discount weekends at the Hilton $300 for the weekend(2 nights), but they were pushing timeshares. For me not worth touring a property and saying no for two hours to get a discount or comps. I don't have enough info, but she did talk them down to $200 before I intervened. Least expensive option is to stay outside the city and take the train.
If you go to NYC, try Victors for dinner. Excellent Cuban food. We make special trips from Philly just to eat there.

NY City Hotels
I work in mid-town and we use different hotels for meetings - here are a few suggestions:
Carlton Hotel - 88 Madison Ave (newly renovated) - 212-531-4100
Shelburne Murray Hill - 303 Lexington Avenue - 212-689-5200
Helmsley - 212 E. 42nd Street - 212-490-8900
I'll try to think of a few more for anyone coming in from out of town.

Another good site if you don't mind a blind-booking is http://www.easyclicktravel.com
If you are Web-saavy enough, go to this link http://www.betterbidding.com/show.php/a ... se_Look-up and you can find out what hotel it is.
Some really great rates to be had!
