I distinctly thought he was reading during "Werewolves" at Cincy....

Last night during a song at Indy (I can't remember which one) they had a camera shot with it clearly in view...in fact it was so clear, one could almost read the lyrics off of it. :o

Anyway, I'm not posting this to judge, but merely to share. It was a great show and I'm glad he's still enjoying himself on stage so we can still have fun in the crowd. :D
I wouldn't care if they posted the lyrics on the Jumbo screen with a little bouncing ball if he meant he would drop most of the songs from the Yellow Album! :o
But I know them all by....naw, too easy!!!!!

You could see it clearly from the seats behind the stage at Mohegan Sun - it looks like it is attached to the mic stand. I look at it as an electronic set list.

He seems more relaxed on stage this year which makes for a better show - whatever it takes...

I really don't understand the obsession over Jimmy using a teleprompter or not. I know he stated in the past that once he needed to use one its time to hit the beach and stop preforming. I think we should just give the guy a break and forget what he said and enjoy his music and great performances as long as they last. It could be this year, I sure hope not, it could be another 20 years from now. Nobody knows when it will happen but Jimmy himself. Sit back and enjoy each and every show he does!

I think the point is that we want HIM to forget what he said and keep going and going and going ... ..... ... 8)

Years ago, I went to see Billy Joel in concert. After his opening song, he walked over to his Grand Piano and picked up a HUGE notebook and he announced to the audience that he had so many songs in his head that over the years some of them started to run into each other in mind and one second he would be singing Only the Good Die Young and the very next verse would be from Scenes from an Italian Restaurant. He went on to say that he knew that we all spent a ton of money for the tickets and wanted to make sure he gave us what we paid for. He asked if we minded that he glance at the words to the songs every now and again, just to make sure he was still singing the right song and the croud went wild.

He then went on to give a fantastic performance during which we all forgot about the book.

We all have tools to make our job easier. What's good for Jimmy and Billy and Elton and Mick, and all the other performers that have had a few too many... to remember all of the words to a few too many of their songs is just fine with me.

Keep the concerts coming boys. I will continue to come too. Teleprompter, Notebook, wheelchair. What ever it takes.

I see no big deal with Jimmy using it, especially for such a big show.
I do think it's funny though when I'm at a bar and there's a guy singing a song while reading the chords and words and flipping the pages as he sings.

I just hope it doesn't completely eliminate the occasional senior moment that make the shows sound different!

I was at the Indy show and saw the telepromter as well, but it appeared to me to be more of a list format than lyrical format. I'm fairly sure it was just a setlist, with extra notes of things/stories he wanted to throw in at certain times. He's been so many places and done so many shows that I'm sure it's much safer to put your stories and references in writing so you don't mention Cincinnati stuff (like a Skyline chili reference) at an Indy concert, or Great Woods, so on. Hell, I have to write myself notes to get through the day and I've never smoked pot or done any of the other "recreational" drugs Jimmy's experienced. I don't blame him, and I appreciate his effort for making sure he doesn't disappoint his rabid fans. Just think how much more p*** everyone on these messageboards would be if he dropped an entire chorus of a well-loved song, or started singing lyrics from a different song altogether?

Furthermore, I don't mind the teleprompter for this reason alone: I am also a huge Frank Sinatra fan, and although I never saw him in concert I know that his final performances were pretty disappointing for fans. He forgot some of his classic songs (even WITH a teleprompter) and looked like a lost, frail old man. I hope I never have to see Jimmy like that. I'm pretty sure it would break my heart. If it takes a teleprompter to prevent or delay that, then cover the entire stage with them for all I care.

the reason people are making a big deal is cause Jimmy said he would quit if he had to use one. Not that anyone really cares. At Mohegan it was funny we could all see what song was coming up next if you were behind the stage.
But....this and the greatest hits set list leads me to think that this MAY be the last tour or he will take a year off or something. Its not like he could ever say this is a last tour, it would be out of control if he said so. So thats my prediction anyway. I could be wrong, but its just a feeling.

I agree with the whole idea. I don't care if he has a prompter or not...as long as he keeps on singing. When Alan Jackson joined him on stage for Margaritaville, Nashville, 2004, they totally screwed up and we all laughed....oh well, it proves he's human...

Bingo! I'm just glad he's decided using a teleprompter doesn't mean his performing career is over. :D
