how expensive is Vegas?

If you wanted to go to the show in vegas and do the sites, etc for a couple? Maybe stay three days, long weekend. Is that enough time.
I'm not a big gambler but we'd plunk a few bucks down doing that, we have casinos here.

Depends on who you know.
In all seriousness, (if I ever went to Vegas

) I usually plan on spending about a grand for a weekend. Between hotels, bars, drinks, and gambling it usually doesn't take long. When I took my wife it was probably more than that because there was shopping and spa packages.
It really depends on what kind of places you want to stay at. If you want a cheap weekend, it will have to be during the week.

This has been one of my favorite websites for a few years about Vegas.

It depends on where you stay and what you want to do. Weekend rates in LV get high on the strip. Forget MGM they bump their rates and most promo rates are not accepted that weekend. Strip prices are $125 and up for weekends. Excalubur is probably one of the lowest the property is also older and showing its age but still OK. Circus Circus is probably the cheapest but has kids everywhere. Off-strip you may be able to find something in the 60-80 range, but taxi/car would eat into your savings. My wife and I usually stay at the Luxor, the rates are fair. We have done Vegas for $500-$2000 for 4 day 3 night trips (not counting airfare and gambling). If you make a game of getting comped and $0.99 buffets you could get in even cheaper. The rates in the Fremont Street section are a lot cheaper but once again cab/car eat into the savings.

I think 3 nights / 4 days is enough time.... if you arent big gamblers...We went last month... My first time
We saw Zumanity ($100 each), stayed at The Orleans off strip...where we found it to be surprisingly inexpensive yet nice plus their free shuttle takes you 5 minutes to the strip every 1/2 hr...and dumps you next door to M-ville! And the discount coupon book they give you to eat in their 7 restaurants rocks!!!
Our trip with hotel and air was bought on travelworm.com $542.... tax tag out the door...for 2!!! 3 months in advance. Very great deal!
I won $1100 and Dave came out $300 ahead... so technically.... the trip was basically free.
However... we did not spend over $50 for dinner, other than M-ville (liquid lunch

)...we drank for free while gambling... We asked for an got free smokes while gambling @ the Orleans.....We did sign up for all the players cards in the different casinos and got all kinds of goodies...perfect for the dog sitter and daughters!!! We did not rent a car... we did use cabs to get around when the shuttle wasnt convienient.... spent about $100 on those....
Basically.... its kinda like you dont have to spend a fortune... but if you dont watch it....you will!

Hold out for a couple of days with the recent terror thing rates might be dropping. (Fraidy cats might decide to keep their feet on the ground) I just found a flight for $270 for last week in october from Philly, which is a great price.

The good thing about Vegas is that a trip here can really fit almost any budget. Airfare is probably going to run between $100-$300 per person depending upon where you are staying. Than, there are several choices for hotels in all price ranges (rates quoted are approximate for Fri-Sat night....weekdays will be about 50-60%)
Very low budget ($39-59)-- anything downtown (except Golden Nugget), Motel 6, Wild Wild West, lots of small roach coaches with no casino
A step up ($60-89)--- Circus Circus, Stratosphere, Terrible's, Riveria
Mid Range ($90-119)-- Imperial Palace, Tuscany, Excalibur, Golden Nugget
A litte better ($120-159) -- Flamingo, Harrahs, New York New York, Excalibur
High End ($160-219) -- MGM, Caesars, Rio, Hard Rock, Palms
Plush ($220+) -- Mandalay Bay, Venetian, Bellagio, Wynn
Than for meals, you can spend anywhere from $5 a day up to $500 depending upon how good and how much you want to eat. There are plenty of fast food options, buffetts and four star restaurants available for you feast at during your visit.
Drinks again can vary quite a bit....they are "free" while playing at any casino and you can always make cocktails in your room and take them with you as you walk the strip. Many of the smaller places have bars with very cheap drinks, while nightclubs can cost you $10+ per cocktail (more if you get bottle service).
Entertainment can again be expensive with some shows costing more than $100....but there are also many free things to do (Sirens show at TI, Bellagio fountains, Parade in the Sky at Rio, Fremont Street Experience). There's also many options in between to fit any budget.
The good thing is that fun can be had on any budget.....of course, more fun can be had with a $10,000 budget than a $500 budget.....however, $500 can still go a lot further in Vegas than many other cities (as long as you don't gamble it all).
The one thing I would definitely advise though is not to spend too much on a room. Especially if you've never been here before, you'll probably spend no more than 4-6 hours in the room each time (enough for a few hours of sleep and a shower)....the rest the time you'll be running on adreliane and exploring everything the city has to offer.
If you have any other questions, feel free to ask.

OUCH !
We are going somewhere really cool on our 35th wedding anniversary next Feb/Mar., and Las Vegas was one of the choices. But this thread sure made it clear how very very expensive it is there, especially for people who don't gamble. I think we'll drive down to New Orleans, maybe take a 4 day cruise out of there.

Thursday to Monday
Plan on $3000 easy!!! for 4 nites 5 days Flamingo, flight, Buffett tickets, Margaritaville drinks and food, a nice meal each day.
(Right now online shows nonstop flight and hotel about $1400 if you stay at Flamingo.)
Depending on what sights you have in mind. Many of the things we enjoyed were free, such as watching the Volcano, seeing the tigers at Mirage, going to Treasure Island, walking through the Wynn Resort, browsing through Forums, the Venetians, drinks at Bellagio to watch the water show, gambling at Paris while having Bloody Mary's each morning...yeah, you might not come out ahead here depending on how you gamble.
It's fun to sit at the piano bar at New York New York for the dueling piano show and play video poker for a while.
Breakfast buffet at Flamingo by the water gardens is nice.
You don't have to pay an arm and a leg to enjoy Vegas, if you don't mind walking and taking in the sights along the way. Timing is sometimes an issue, but IT really is easier to walk than get anywhere driving.

It was a teenage wedding
And the old folks wished them well
You could see that pierre
Did truly love the mademoiselle
And now the young monsieur and madame
Have rung the chapel bell
"c'est la vie", say the old folks
It goes to slow you never can tell
They furnished off an apartment
With a two room roebuck sale
The coolerator was crammed
With t.v. dinners and ginger ale
But when pierre found work
The little money comin' worked out well
"c'est la vie", say the old folks
It goes to show you never can tell
They had a hi-fi phono
Boy did they let it blast
Seven hundred little records
All rockin' rhythm and jazz
But when the sun went down
The rapid tempo of the music fell
"c'est la vie", say the old folks
It goes to show you never can tell
They bought a souped-up jitney
T'was a cherry-red fifty nine
They drove it down to new orleans
To celebrate their anniversary
It was there that pierre
Was wedded to the lovely mad'moiselle
"c'est la vie", say the old folks
It goes to show you never can tell

Vegas is a totally different experience. (I'm cold natured so I don't think I'd enjoy Vegas as much in Feb. Our January trip for Buffett was pretty cold one year.)
There really are some special things to see outdoors. Vegas has its romance too. The casinos are just beautiful and the horticulture of it all is just amazing...like an oasis in a desert.
Just reading here brings back memories of sitting there in "Paris" each morning.

Non-stop from MacArthur Airport on LI on Southwest, $218 r/t. Hmmm

Yeah, from Houston to Vegas non-stop on Continental is $200 a person too from Oct. 26-Oct 30.
From New York it is $258 maybe.
I've stayed at a nice little motel out toward the airport for $79 a nite.
There are reasonable ways to see the Buffett show in Vegas and 3 days is long enough.
Enjoy yourself.

For us, coming from the Pacific Northwest...it is about $250-$300 per person. We stay at the cheap hotels......The Imperial Palace (right next door to Margaritaville is only $69 to $89 a night.....clean, but nothing special....Besides how much time ya gonna spend in there anyway????)
After that it is a couple of meals at margaritaville, a burger or two, some gambleing (small time!!!)
Go to the Last Man Standing party I think that's $25 or $30 a head, $250 a head for the jiimmy show and as many of the free parties as we can squeze in......So all said and done about $2000.
Well then there is the 2nd weekend show to go to....so another $2000
Oh well, ya just gotta do IT!!!

You just have to SURF and check things out... Go to all the 'package' online deals. Travelocity and sites like that. Or even on USairways vacations.
I have my rooms reserved at Flamingo for Oct 26- Nov 1 Th:$130, Fr-Sa: $160, Su $160. I do not remember the other days. But you also need to keep calling back cause you can get rates changes. Right now from Pittsburgh RT air, 4 nights hotel for 2 people, plus let's say $115 tickets is $667 per person. Then add in food and drinking. Of course the hotel comes down more - if you have 4 in the room, you may bring it down $100+ .
You can always think of it this way....if you pay for the hotel and air now...when October comes around it won't seem as much. Okay not the best logic, but it works!

Try the airlines with vacations... like
http://www.usairways.com/awa/content/tr ... fault.aspx (sorry had the wrong link). You 'may' find a good deal there. I know they had MGM listed for that second weekend.
Best of luck to all trying to get out there at a good price! After all you need $ for the Margaritas and cheeseburgers too

We did it last year, from myrtle beach and total we spent about $2500.00 for 4 days and 3 nights. this was staying at the MGM where rooms were $300.00 plus a night (which I would not suggest) we were never in our room. I think when we do it agian it can be done for $1,800 per couple.
