Keets & Concerts....continued

A while ago there was discussion on whether to bring your keets to a Buffett show. If I may, I’d like to relate our experience with our keet @ Great Woods. She’ll be 10 in September. We arrived in the RV lot about 9:16 am on Thursday. We parked, set up and proceeded to enjoy the day. We bring little gift bags from Oriental Trading, (where else ?), and G plays a trivia game w/any keet she sees. Everyone gets 1 for playing, and it kills some time. After lunch, usually 3 or 4ish, she’ll take a nap for a couple of hours in the camper. This is perfect timing since this is when the lot is the most fun for the adults. After nap, it’s dinner & into the show. She’s fully rested and ready to dance for 3 hours. This time, we lucked out w/decent seats to the left of the stage near the lower speakers. I went looking for earplugs and a security guard gave us her set. When the basketball game came out, G was able to play & even get a basket. We were close enough for eye contact w/the band. G got waves from Tina, Nadira, Peter and during 1 song Jimmy even waved & smiled at her. When WDWGD&S started we went w/the coconut ear muffs. She held up a sign that read “Get Milk &……Moo” Jimmy even noticed that. She made the screen during that song a couple of times. For 3 hours she never stopped dancing. Near the end of the show, she worked her way towards the stage w/her poster. The guards let her stay near by. During fins, the camera caught her again having a blast. Charleston noticed her and brought her to the middle of the stage near the gates. At the end, he let her go near the stage & Jimmy walked up to her and said ”This is for you” & handed her a signed flip flop. Charleston then handed Jimmy her poster & he signed that too. I’m not sure who was more thrilled, G or her parents. Back at our seats, a stage hand gave her a pick from Peter. At the end of the evening, G told us that was the most fun she ever had. I think that’s why we all love Jimmy & his shows, it’s fun for all. I guess it depends on the keet and how they’ll act towards & with adults. As a family, we had a blast. Memories to last a lifetime. And I don’t think we infringed on anybody’s fun or their right to have a good time. We will see you all @ the next show.

I LOVED the get milk and moo....everyone was mooing!! It was so funny! My daughter was there that night too, she's 12. She had a blast and everyone was great to her. She won a contest of some sort in the parking lot and the guy went to hand her a jello shot and said wait you cant have that and gave her a parrot hat. Good time for sure!

Loved the Get Milk ...and Moo ! (Was she also the "Pirate looks under 40" ?)
We've talked about what a blast our girls would have at a show (ages 7 and 9) and have often wondered if it was "do-able" and how much it would infringe on our own and others enjoyment (particularly the pre-show activities). My general feeling is that most people would be respectful and those that weren't wouldn't require too much convincing to be. Of course there is also the parent's responsibility to be aware of the environment they put their kids in. The rv is definately the way to do it - a little a/c and a video in the afternoon does a world of good for morale. Kudos to you for providing the experience.

That is tooo cool! When Jimmy played in Charlotte this year, there was a girl with a "milk and moo" poster and he made note of it and she was on the screen several times as well! That is very thrilling for the parents too! I would be so excited if it were my child!
We are definitely taking our 10 year old next year. She is so ready and I am ready for her to share in the experience as well! Thanks for sharing your story!

Al that is because YOU seem to be a parent that teaches their children correctly instead of, like some, who expect adults that go there to let loose to act differently. Truthfully, it's all about the parent doing the right thing, not the child that is the problem.

Honestly (and respectfullly), a JB parking lot is a PG-13/R rated event and adults shouldn't have to curb their behavior because folks decide to bring their children along. No kid-hater, here; I have three of my own. But I think your second point is key: it's up to parents who choose to bring their children to remove their keets from a situation they'd rather the little ones didn't see rather than expect adults to curb their behavior.
Kudos to you, Tropical Al for giving your keet a great experience and planning ahead!

And that's just what we did. We had our set up & our own little area. We did take a walk and as we came upon something a little too risque or outright illegal, we went the other way. Remember, there is tv, which is a lot worse than a parking lot. If we do see something inappropiate, it turns into a life/learning lesson. We walked thru a cloud of pot smoke & explained to G what it was. And how it affects you etc. We told her " now you know what it smells like, & if you ever come home smelling like it, there will be trouble." It is up to the parent to teach & bring up their kids properly

Hey, that's all I'm talking about here: Avoiding the things you don't want your kid to see and a little common sense (which I find isin't so common) from others: as mentioned above with the jello shot/hat incident.
GW parking lot, a Sox game, heck - even the mall on a Friday night.... All provide opportunities for learning as well as enjoyment

Tropic Al I would like to thank you and G for the nice prize that my son won playing the game the goodies kept him busy at the right times at Great Woods. I would also like to thanks you guys for taking a picture of my wife and me at Jones beach. As for as the kids go I have to agree that its okay for the little ones as long as parental guidance is used. I had to steer him away from a couple of events, but that s the name of the game when you got the keets with you.Walking around the parking lot was great fun for my son everyone was very nice to him and he received lots a beads, glo sticks, tattoos etc. along the way which made his day. I also have to thank the people in section 15 that I sat with Steve who I got my tickets from and introduced my son to writting on the beach ball and the nice couple from Mass I believe foxboro That gave my son the greatest parrot necklace. Theres also the pirates on top of the caravan and the pirate ship bus owners and so on and son on that helped make this a great first Buffett concert for my son. Next stop Madison Square Garden which will be on his birthday. Sorry that this is a little long.
THANKS ALL FOR MAKING THIS DAY GREAT FOR THE LITTLE GUY. RLA

Wow - what an awesome experience!!! Hubby and I were talking about taking our son next year (he will be 12) to a show. I totally agree with you that you can use these experiences to teach your kids right from wrong.
