For those of us in the Greater Boston area we know that today is the annual Jimmy Fund Radio Telethon. The Jimmy Fund along with the Dana Farber Cancer Institute is the worlds leader in cancer research and cancer care. I've spent many days visitng the 7th floor at Childrens Hospital and Dana Farber in Boston and for those individuals who get treated there they will tell you that it truly is heaven on earth. The work and compassion that the doctors and nurses provide are unparallel and that is why every year thousands of cancer patients from around the world come to Boston to receive treatment. It's because of these outstanding facilities, doctors and nurses that my best friends daughter is now beating leukemia and soon will be getting on a schoolbus for the very first time. Last year the telethon raised more than 2 million dollars for cancer care and research and we are hoping for a greater number this year. Check out the link below to find out how to make a donation and some of the great silent auction prizes.
also we have a couple foursomes left for our annual Jimmy Fund Golf Tournamant on Cape Cod on 9/23 for those who live in the area. www.karle.com Last year we had 120 golfers and raised more than $40,000 for cancer research.
The video "Strong As Iron" is one of the videos we show during the reception after the golf tournament. I'm not an emotional guy but this one always hits home every year we show it. It's only about 2 minutes long but really gets the point across.
Cancer definately SUCKS!
My wife & mother can both attest to that first hand.
Thanks for starting this thread and I urge EVERYONE to do what they can to help that organization and any similar ones that support the cause of finding a cure for cancer.
This is one thing I want to see happen in my lifetime.
$565,000 donated as of 11am. Slightly behind last years pace but we'll pick it up. Anyone heading over to Fenway today (I know myself and BOR will be there) be sure to pick up a Jimmy Fund t-shirt and of course all proceeds will be donated to the Jimmy Fund. Even you Yankee fans out there make sure to buy a shirt

Has Steinbrenner called in yet? Every year he makes a donation.

he hasn't yet, but he donates $10,000 every year. "The Donald" will also be making a sizeable donation this year as well as throwing out the first pitch at tonights game. Sox orginzation told him he can wear the Yankee hat when he throws out the first pitch as long as he is wearing a Jimmy Fund t-shirt
I lost my father to cancer roughly a year and a half ago, but he hoped his participation in experimental trials would one day help someone else. This funding is so very important. At least one family member participates in Relay for Life every year and we'll continue doing so until a cure is finally found!
When I saw the title of this thread I instantly thought of this picture he had taken with his oncologist a few months before he passed. It's a clothing line UW Madison hospital sells and they donate the profits to cancer research as well. He loved wearing it.

Sorry for your loss Corona shark.
His willingness to go forth in a study will someday touch another.
Thanks for posting this.
2 Years ago I donated $50, last year I donated $150.
This year I wanted to do more... So in addition to my $150 donation, myself and one of the girls that works for me walked around our company with our hands out asking for contributions, we called all our friends and family and hit them all up for some sort of a donation too. When it was all said and done we came up another $944. See how much people really really do care.... I don't know... It's pretty cool thing!!
The only sucky part is that we thought our parent company United Technologies would match the gift. Well, we found out that they wouldn't match a Jimmy Fund donation because it falls under the "Health & Services" category and they'll only match to an "Arts & Culture" charity.
What kind of B.S. is that??? What the hell is more important in this effen' world than helping a little kid cope with cancer?
