NOLA---French Quarter Hotel Help!
Looking for good place to stay IN the French Quarter where I won't get mugged by the local crooks or the local hotel establishments.

Just got back from down there last night. We went for the Six String Music Festival and stayed at Place d'Armes Hotel on St. Ann Street. www.placedearmes.com. This was our second stay at that hotel and we loved it. It's pretty much just as it is depicted on the website. Hope this helps!

LOVE, LOVE, LOVE the Place d'Armes Hotel. I think it's still owned by the Valentino family. They have other properties and I've stayed also stayed at the Hotel St. Marie. It looks like they've added several hotels to their "phlock"Fastmovinangel wrote:Just got back from down there last night. I believe that the Place d'Armes has some interior rooms (meaning no windows) so be sure of what you're booking.
Good luck and let me know if you need any other suggestions.

The Monteleone is a New Orleans French Quarter institution, and where we always stay when we are in town. The hotel is on Royal (one block south of Bourbon St) and has been there for over 120 years. The revolving Carousel Bar on the main floor is really cool.

they are running summer specials for the next month; basic rooms are $89 and $99

there are more hotels around the french quarter than ways bubba gump can prepare shrimp. I would suggest looking at all of the sites above and map the location before you choose. remember, historic means old and if the hotel says that it is historic, don't expect brand new, expect remodeled. My wife and I were going down about 3 times a year pre Katrina, and the past few years we would stay at LaPavion in the CBD, only because my sister had a friend that worked and we felt like we got the royal treatment. But you would need a cab or rental car to get back and forth. However I will say that I did do alot of work in NOLA after the strom, I spent so much time there and got so depressed, I will not go back for a while.
In my opinion the french quarter was one of the most cultural areas in the world. The problem is that there is still so much construction work going on there that at night the quarter is filled with"less desirable people", the last time I was down there, for the first time ever in the French Quarter, I did not feel safe. Now saying that I have not been back to the Quarter in about 3 months. I know now that they have the street cars back in operation.
I would say to bring your comfortable shoes and be prepared to walk.
Also, it has not been mentioned yet, but Margaritaville is not close to Bourbon street, it is within walking distance. But be prepared for a hike, especially if you have been drinking. Do Bourbon one night, but check out other areas and you will see the local flare
Some things that I recommend doing while you are down there is:
1- D-Day museum - if you like history
2- Dickie Brennens Steakhouse or Palace Cafe - true NOLA food.
3- Margaritaville - Duh - but go upstairs to the tire swing bar.
4- St. Louis Cathedral - go inside, it's beautiful
5- Acme Oyster Bar - local favorite
6- The Riverwalk and the Moonwalk - great for lazy morning stroll
7- Visit the historic building, to many to note, but the architecture is wonderful.
8- Cafe DuMoone - a staple for NOLA
last, if you have a rental car and want to be reminded the wrath of mother nature, visit St. Bernard Parish. You will still see areas that have yet to be rebuilt, if you would like email me and I will get you easy map around the area.

Jolena and I are heading down there Friday. We're staying at the www.princeconti.com hotel.
I tried to keep this trip a surprise for her, but just couldn't do it.

I'm on top of the world, lookin' down on creation
And the only explanation I can find
Is the love that I've found ever since you've been around
You're love's put me at the top of the world
