Buffett contradictions
I was thinking about different songs that have contradictions...wondering if there were lots of 'em. An example: "don't eat beignets/too much sugar and dough/but I will play for gumbo" (IWPFG) Vs. "the coffee is strong at the Cafe du Monde/ the donuts are too hot to touch/but just like a fool/when those sweet goodies cool/I eat till I eat way too much." Any other similar kinda contradictions in other songs?

Never thought about it, although...
Wino and I Know was written early in his career, while I Will Play For Gumbo was written later, so maybe it's another example of Jimmy mellowing as the year progress.

Sometimes more than others,
we see who and what and where we are,
I'm just a one man band,
With my feet in the sand,
Tonight I just need my guitar

Re: Buffett contradictions
Other than Piece of Work itself, which is the point, I believe, I can't think of any.
I will say that I wish he'd do a live version of The Wino and I Know and replace the word donuts with beignets, as that's what we know he means. I just like the preciseness of it, as Cafe du Monde doesn't sell just donuts.

Well, something to keep in mind is that these songs were written at different times, and perhaps his tastes changed.
Also...here's a shocker...what is in a song is not always 100% the literal truth. The way I've been taught, songwriting is about finding the universal truth behind the literal truth - the part of the truth that others will identify with - and then to fill in the details in ways that people can likewise connect with. To quote, they're really just "semi-true stories."

Yes, you've got to take songs with a grain of salt. It's a mythical thing.
Telling myself the same lies that I told myself back home
