Secured the tickets. Where is the best place to party for two novice Parrotheads before the show?

Depends on how much you want to spend.
The Flamingo is good because Margaritaville is right there. If you are on a budget, the Imperial Palace is right next door and a bit less expensive. Some rooms at the IP are actually closer to Margaritaville than the rooms at the Flamingo. Or, you could go the route of being close to the concert and stay at the MGM (or the New York New York or the Excalibur or one other one that is right there that I'm forgetting). They are all very close to eachother and I'm sure you could find a deal at least at one of those spots.
If you want to drop a load of money and eat up the whole Vegas experience, you could sport for Caesar's Palace or the Bellagio (my sister works there). Both are within decent walking distance of Margaritaville, but a bit up the strip from the MGM.
A tip...Go to the pre-party at Margaritaville, get together a group of 6+ people, and get a limo to take you from M'ville to the MGM for the show. It's no more expensive than a cab when you split the cost and you don't have to wait in the taxi line or take the monorail.

That other one would be the Tropicana. The Hooters Hotel & Casino is rather close to the MGM too, across the street.
There are cheaper options, off the strip but close. Some of the off-strip hotels have shuttles to the strip, to help avoid cab-fare.
I was looking at room near the airport, which is only about 2 miles from the MGM. The rates are pretty nice, I'm just looking for someone to split a room with. I'll be traveling to the concert alone, but with 17,000 phriends, if you know what I mean.

He's coming from Scotland, though. Sending him off-strip would defeat the purpose a bit, I think.

True dat! I wasn't thinking clearly, this whole name-change thing, and me having to pay for a room, for two nights, by myself is getting to me.
I'm going 10/21, so it doesn't matter anyway.
I really need to

The one next to New York New York is the Boardwalk. Only place on the strip that has a 24 hour buffet.
