The special tequila from Stars is much better than what was in the magic lexan bottle... single-barrel reserve
anejo with a blown-glass agave plant in the base of the bottle.. that, is incredible stuff.

Incredible stuff....indeed!

It cost us $49.95 (which really isn't that bad a deal - considering ordering a Margarita at the bar was like $7.50-$8.00) I have a picture of it if you are interested...but it's at home so I can't post it now. Also you can only get a 100 oz. if you are at a table.
That isn't exactly a bad deal at all....if you have more then one person drinking them!
If it's a 100 oz margarita I was about to say "Then I must be the only one drinking!"

I ate at a mexican restaurant on the waterfront in Cape Town, South Africa, and they served all kinds of cocktails in mixing bowls. And I'm talking big mixing bowls (but they called them fishbowls). They were good....I think....

I like the mix with Margaritaville's "Last Mango" flavored Tequila. Some of that, some Margarita mixer (prefer Cuervo mix), a splash of Rose's Lime Juice, and I'm good to go.

Is this place is the Victoria and Alfred Waterfront complex? I'm wondering if this is the place I heard about.

Sauza Silver will work well. Sauza is the #1 distiller of tequila in Mexico. If you get a chance, or want to surprise your guests, pick up a bottle of their Hornitos Reposado. It's about as top-shelf as you want to go for margarita-mixing.

Surprise or knock them on thier 'keisters'?
surprise. contrary to reputation, tequila is no more alcoholic than most basic whiskeys or gin at about 80 proof. You can get barrel-proof bourbon in the 110-115 range, and you can get overproof rum (non 151) in the 110-120 range.
A lot of tequila's reputation comes from the folks who do 15 shots and then think they are bulletproof. Too, the usual shooter tequilas are not 100% agave, only about 51% fermented agave juice blended with alcohol from sugar water to form a
mixto. Some would tell you that it's the
mixto that gives you the hangover in the morning, tho I wouldn't go that far.
Sauza Hornitos is a 100% agave product, aged for 150 days in oak barrels, so it is a bit mellower than straight silver or
blanco.
and I stand corrected: Sauza is the #2 distiller currently.
Ringling,
You are the man! If I had posted this I would be the man. Your advise is right on the mark. Do not use that stuff our favorite minstral puts out(sorry Bubba), its pure swill for the masses, selling on pure name recognition. You really can't put a super premium product in margaritas, it'd be a waste, but a shot of Cabo, or Patron on the side is a GOOD thing!
