The Lost Manatee wrote:Creeky, I'm sorry it has taken me so long to weigh in on this trip but I would skip Denver in a heartbeat. It's out on the flats, sure you can see the mountains from there (on a clear day) but you aren't in the mountains. You should stop in Salt Lake City instead. It's a smaller city, with more Wal Marts then you can shake a stick at. We have a wide range of places to eat and most are fairly inexpensive. If you are driving in the US, you should know that for the last year Salt Lake has had the least expensive gasoline (petrol) in the country out of any major metro area. We have the Wasatch mountains as part of the city. We also have the Salt Lake Real soccer team so you can come watch great soccer (not the Real but all the other teams that beat them). We're also about 4 hours driving time from Yellowstone, Zion Canyon, Bryce Canyon, Canyonlands, Arches and Dinosaur National Park. Oh yeah, there's the Salt Flats and Nevada is 118 miles away.

I would offer to put you up however with 2 dogs, 3 cats and a 13 year old my house is pretty much full up. I can probably get you a deal on a hotel if you decide to visit.
Thanks ... but Denver is on the itinerary purely for the pineapple pizza thing 8)

Well...isn't this fun!!! :D :D

I live not 1 km from a super WalMart...here in Indianapolis. :)

As far as traveling the US, I'd highly recommend the Sept/Oct time frame as weather will generally be better (less rain, other than potential for hurricanes/typhoons in the South and East) across more of the country than Mar/April.

I've got a guest room available and would love to have you visit. If you don't make it over this way, you'll have to let us know your travel itinerary so we can perhaps assemble a series of regional phlockings for BNers to come visit you wherever you are. :D

Good luck with the planning...I sure hope to meet you!! :D :D

My brother-in-law drives a truck for Wal Mart. I might be able to score you a ride on his big Wal-Mart rig. :D :D :D

I'd offer you a place to stay, but our guest bed is also our sofa so privacy have you would not!

We're happy to fill up the keg-er-ator and entertain a night or two at our place while you're here though.

And I vote for the Sept/Oct!!!! It's beautiful in Colorado then!

Creeky has enough frequent flyer points for a freebie return trip to LAX from Sydney and wants to plan a trip to use them next year 8) .

I am looking for maybe some slightly different places to visit this time around.

Places I have already visited are :

LA
San Fran
Vegas
Chicago
NYC
DC
All of Florida
Atlanta
Charleston
San Antonio
Houston
New Orleans
San Diego
Phoenix
Sedona

I am most likely going to go to San Antonio, Houston and Denver at this point.

Looking for other suggestions. I do travel on a budget, so places like NYC are too expensive for me if I have to pay for hotels etc. (our dollar value etc).

I am also not a museum person ... or look at this beautiful building person .. or lets go hiking person .... I am just a "where is the closest Walmart" person  that likes to meet people!
I suppose Girdletree Maryland isn't top on your list

I am leaning toward October ...for financial reasons ... and maybe .. just maybe .. MOTM following it ...

However ... what is the average temperature in Denver in October??? Your "beautiful" might be "colder than a welldiggers ass" to me

And ..... tell all about Indy - never been - never thought of going - dont know what there is there .....

October can mean anywhere from 85 degrees during Indian summer to a full-on blizzard.

Girdletree is in the DeMarVa peninsula (Delaware, Maryland & Virginia) It's near Snow Hill and Pokomoke City. I'm sure that cleared it all up

And would this mean that I would need to start to drink adult drinks ... to warm up?
