Image As you've noted, Kokomo and I are going...
I haven't made our hotel reservation yet.

Where is everyone staying?

I really don't know Austin, so I don't know where to suggest meeting to eat and drink before the show...any ideas?

We're booked at a little motel on So. Congress. $$ (few miles away)
There are two...The Austin Motel and The San Jose. Nice area.

Have stayed at the Omni Downtown, but I think it is sold out unless you are booking with a flight??. $$$ (2 blocks)

Some people at JJW BDB say La Quinta on 11th is ok for $99. $ (several blocks)

Intercontinental is the closest. $$$$ (next door)
Driskell is across the street. $$$$

The closest places to eat or drink before show are hotels.
Omni has good burgers and pizza and a nice lobby bar.
Driskell expensive, fine dining and drinks, but excellent.

There are lots of fun places near 6th street, tthorn listed some great choices, but they are a bit of a walk away.
Lavaca St Bar
The Jackalope
Fox & Hound
Cedar St Courtyard
The Cedar Door

We like to go across the street to Hickory Street Bar and Grill. It doesn't seem to be a very popular place,
but it's close and has outdoor seating and convenient for people arriving later.

Z Tejas has great food but too far to walk (great for lunch)
Stubbs BBQ is always good to visit and the BBQ is ok.

Steak place called McKlusky's on 6th.
http://www.danmckluskys.com/

For late night, there is Katz Deli (also a taxi ride up 6th)

http://www.katzneverkloses.com/

Hotels farther away but still downtown and on lake are
Radisson and Hyatt.

There are tons of great little places to eat for the next day down Barton Springs Road.

So many places, so little time.

there is a hampton inn near the convention center... free beer/wine hour from 5-6. also the new hitlon convention center too.

i would stay away from the la quinta downtown... SCARY at night.

the omni is nice... so is the marriott downtown but it is a little far from the PT.

the hyatt is fun... get a room that faces the river and at dusk, you can look out your window and watch the bats fly out from under the congress street bridge. they have a great outdoor bar

there is a doubletree downtown... off mlk or enfield (aka 15th street)
there are tons of B&Bs as well.
I must be wishing on someone else's star....

Thanks for the info on the hotels, etc :D

Larry has a doctor's appointment in the am, so we will probably be running late, as usual. :-?

Thanks for the info. I didn't want to stay at the La Quinta either when I saw it, but it is a lot cheaper than hotels. Some swear it is ok, but please don't take this as a recommendation.

Austin traffic is SO bad. Trying to suggest places where we won't have to drive too far or park and repark, etc.

The event page at gettix says it's sold out but I clicked the "Buy Now" button and single seats in the $200 and $300 sections were popping up.

Just in case anyone was hoping Jake might join Jimmy for this acoustic night, please note, he's scheduled to be in Hiroshima, Japan on Sept 19.

Anyone else wondering if Radio Margaritaville will broadcast this one? I really hope so. They did Jazzfest and the show from Margaritaville earlier this year, so why not?

I just left her a vm, hopefully she'll get it in time.
Pairs are coming up too - it's tempting but I need to pass.
It was a pleasure and a hell of an evening
Truly was our night to win

A single seat 9 coming up on Row F MEZZ @$200 level is a great aisle seat and probably better than floor seat past L.

Balcony Girl, this seat has YOUR name on it!!

It would be nice, but after three concerts this year, plus getting a new roof, new a/c unit, new washer, and a new f-ing car, AND a trip to Chatanooga coming up in November, there's just no way I can pull it off and stay married. [smilie=grrrrrr.gif]

She doesn't have a problem with me going to Alpine or Chicago since they're both just down the road a piece, and when I went to Dallas in April, I thought that might be pushing the envelope. But she didn't complain or put up a fuss. Which REALLY surprised me. Between the concerts, Navy reunions, & ballgames I go to every year (still have a Cubs/Reds game to go to next month) I guess I can't complain either.
