I want to go back to the island,
Where the shrimp boats tie up to the pilin'.
Give me oysters and beer for dinner ev'ry day of the year

Start with some wine
Get some apples and brandy and sugar just fine
Old friends always show up on time
That's why you add Sparkling Burgandy wine

NGREDIENTS:
* 1 Bottle of red wine (Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Rioja, Zinfandel, Shiraz)
* 1 Lemon cut into wedges
* 1 Orange cut into wedges
* 2 Tbsp sugar
* 1 Shot brandy
* 2 Cups ginger ale or club soda
PREPARATION:
Pour wine in the pitcher and squeeze the juice wedges from the lemon and orange into the wine. Toss in the fruit wedges (leaving out seeds if possible) and add sugar and brandy. Chill overnight. Add ginger ale or club soda just before serving.
If you'd like to serve right away, use chilled red wine and serve over lots of ice.
Addition ideas: sliced strawberries, peaches, handful of fresh blueberries, raspberries, kiwi, a shot or two of gin, brandy or rum, a cup of ginger ale, citrus soda pop or lime juice.

The Apple Tree in Taos has the most fabulous Sangria. Best I've ever tasted.

This is one I've used for parties and I changed it a bit......I added my changes.....it is always well received!
Super Fruity Sangria
INGREDIENTS:
• 1 Bottle of your favorite white wine (This recipe is just as delicious with a good red wine, if you so choose)
• 1 Lemon cut into wedges
• 1 Orange cut into wedges
• 1 Lime cut into wedges
• 1 Peach cut into wedges
• 1 Cup sliced strawberries
• 1/2 Cup lemonade or limeade
• 1/2 Cup Sugar
• 2 shots of apricot, peach or "berry" flavored brandy
(I used Peach Schnapps and some Triple Sec.....probably a bit more than two shots)
• 2 Cups ginger ale
(I used Sprite)
• Optional: one can of diced pineapple pieces with juice
PREPARATION:
Pour wine in the pitcher and squeeze the juice wedges from the lemon, orange and lime into the wine. Toss in the fruit wedges (leaving out seeds if possible) and add sliced peaches, strawberries limeade/lemonade, sugar and brandy.
Chill overnight. Add ginger ale and ice just before serving.
**just a note, the fruit that is leftover is YUMMY!!

When friends come for Saturday night
We always make up some sangria wine
It's organic and it comes from the vine
It's also legal and it gets you so high
Chorus
And I love that sangria wine
Love to drink it with old friends of mine
Love to drink with old friends of mine
When we get drunk on that sangria wine
Oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh
I love sangria wine
Oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh
I love sangria wine
You start with some lemons and limes
Apples, brandy and sugar's fine
Old friends always show up on time
That's why you add that sparkling burgundy wine
Repeat Chorus
In Florida on a Saturday night
Everclear is added to the wine sometime
You got some tacos and nachos, burritos, hell who knows
That's the way it usually goes and it goes
Is anybody going to San Antone
Or Phoenix, Arizona
Any place is all right as long as I
Don't have to go to Disney
Oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh
I love sangria wine
Oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh
I love sangria wine
All that's left to do is drink wine
Sit back and watch your mind go by
You know you always tell the truth
When you're drunk on wine
That's why you add the lemons and limes
Repeat Chorus

Whoa oh oh whoa oh, I love Sangria Wine
Texas version:
Any place is alright as long as I
Don't have to go to Waco (sorry PHarms)
3 parts burgundy or a good red wine if you wish
1 part brandy
1 part triple sec or Grand Marnier
1 part Margaritaville Margarita Mix
Pour over ice
Add 5 alive to taste
or Minute Maid juice blends...I used Mango Tropical tonight
Garnish with slices of fruit if you wish.
(Every time I mix different kinds of wine or brandy and juice, you get a little different taste so this is not exactly Tried and True like you asked for.)

El Siboney in KW... and this little hole-in-the-wall Cuban restaurant Candy took me to the last time I was down in Orlando... both of them serve great Sangria from what I have been told.East Texas Parrothead wrote:The Apple Tree in Taos has the most fabulous Sangria. Best I've ever tasted.

Last time we were in Spain, our friends served us some outstanding sangria, they were using top-shelf wine and allowed it to chill overnight, but I can't remember anything else about their recipe.

Rhino's Sangria Recipe
Start with a big enough jug so you only have to read thru this crap once. I'd suggest, at minimum, one of those gallon type rubbermaid cooler jobbies. Rinse it out will ya? Fill with ice. No, screw that, ice takes up valuable booze room. Correction: fill halfway with ice.
Ok, now, you went to the store and got all the stuff, right? Alright then, onto the most vital part, the precise measurements.
Start with the rum. The cheap stuff. The kinda brown stuff that you can smuggle into Buffett concerts disguised as ice tea. That stuff. Pour in....keep pouring....about that much, half a bottle. Bottle size will dictate cooler size, half of a handle sized bottle needs like a two gallon cooler thingy.
Alrighty then. Got ice. Got rum. Need wine. There are several schools of thought on the grape and vintage. That's all *****. Grab a box of the red wine. The "ch lob lay" red. Spelled chillable. Just tell your friends that had the high fallutin floor seats at the last show that it's an imported wine, a 'ch lob lay'. They've never toured the box section of the wine store, they won't know a thing. How much? Like, say, a bunch. But don't fill up the cooler thingy, cuz there's more.
Ah, the accoutrements. The finer things in life. The stuff from the islands with spices. The vitamins. Kmart berry soda. Try to avoid anything that clearly identifies what type of berries gave their life in the pursuit of the perfect sangria. Stay general. Stay the hell away from the sugar-free aisle. One can. Plastic half pint of OJ. Half of that. Now, the key.
Squeezable juice drinks. What kind? Oh, c'mon, this ain't a freakin Oprah recipe. Tropical punch!!!!!! Just be careful, maybe have the keets put the straw in. Sharp little bastards. Quantity. One to two, depending on how much ya slurp while testing the straw.
Fruit. Orange, .75, check. Limes, 2, check. Lemon, 1, check. Sliced into wedgies and squeezed into chooler thingy (squoze into?) While wedgy-ing, go ahead and give your sweetie a wedgie, always brings on fun reactions.Toss them in aforementioned cooler thingy. Stir, swirl, shake it if ya got it. Pour into glass/cup/mug with ice. Drink. Repeat. Repeat. Repeat. Repeat...
