My son's preschool is totally peanut-free so I couldn't ever send a Fluffernutter with him.
I'm on my way to Wal-Mart among others.........but I'll check that out while I'm there toobuffettbride wrote:i've had a helluva time finding a good thermos! they used to be standard-issue with each lunchbox, but not so much any more.mommar wrote:get a thermos for soups, and mac and cheese

Where did you find one? I've looked all over, and maybe I'm just a doofus, but I haven't been able to find a good thermos anywhere.bravedave wrote:
We bought our daughter a wide-mouthed thermos with no glass components ("unbreakable"?), because we try to avoid the sandwich slumps too. She routinely uses this to carry hot lunches to school. It's just the right size for a kid's portion of mac&cheese or soup, and the food is still hot (sometimes very hot) when she opens it for lunch.

I found one in the grocery store on the "can't-figure-out-where-to-stock-this-stuff" Aisle.buffettbride wrote:Where did you find one? I've looked all over, and maybe I'm just a doofus, but I haven't been able to find a good thermos anywhere.bravedave wrote:

I tried that aisle at the grocery store, but no luck. I'll be at WalMart and Target this weekend anyway, so I s'pose I'll find one then. I figured they'd be all over with the school supplies a few weeks back, but nuffin'.bravedave wrote:I found one in the grocery store on the "can't-figure-out-where-to-stock-this-stuff" Aisle.buffettbride wrote:Where did you find one? Target had them too.

Oooohhh. Neato! Thanks!SharkOnLand wrote:If you can't find a thermos at your local store... I found this website just now http://www.lunchboxes.com/thermoses.html
I'd stay away from the flasks for the kids, though. Maybe get one for yourself

and for protein you can always toss some leftover grilled chicken or some tuna into the pasta.buffettbride wrote:Nope, but I do send little ice packs in he lunch so salads are a go. I'm also gonna make a buttload of pasta salad to send 'cause she likes that a lot.
When I was in middle school, this was the 'cool' way to take lunch. It wasn't cool to eat school lunch or take a lunchbox... of course, we usually just got milk at school instead of a juice box, but hey...jonesbeach10 wrote:Whatever happened to the days of packing a turkey or salami sandwich, a bag of chips, juice box, and apple in a brown paper bag?

Oh, I'm picking out a thermos, for you
Not an ordinary thermos, for you
But the extra-best thermos, you can buy
With vinyl, and stripes, and a cup built right in
I'm picking out a thermos for you
And maybe a barometer too
And what else can I buy, so on me you'll rely
A rear-end thermometer too"

now THAT sounds good!Jollymom21 wrote:I've found that sliced apples sprinkled with cinnamon and sugar in a ziploc-type bag (with all the air squeezed out) was always a winner!Tequila Revenge wrote:"Lunch apples" almost always ended up in the trash, but sliced apples were eaten or shared. Go figure that one out.
