My son's weekly school menu 8)

Mild cheddar cheese cubes and grape tomatoes mixed. gogurt

Chicken Ceaser Salad and a gogurt

Mild cheddar cheese cubes and sliced honey dew, sliced cantelope, sliced strawberries, and sliced bananas. gogurt

PBJ, grapes, gogurt

Fridays is pizza day at thier school so we give into that

Occasionally my wife sneaks in a few cookies during the week but I'm not suppose to know about that, we also substitute with tuna, turkey, and roastbeefs sandwiches but he loves his gogurt and fruit the most.

i've had a helluva time finding a good thermos! they used to be standard-issue with each lunchbox, but not so much any more.

she loves soup and i make AWESOME home made mac n cheese.
hey Mal...try looking in the sporting goods isle...like with camping or hunting supplies

as for other ideas...what about chicken salad sandwiches...or tuna sandwiches (or tuna in the cute pouch with the crackers), I have seen some of the kids in the cafe. come with turkey & cheese/salami & cheese/ham & cheese rolled up ...or leftover cold pizza...or pepperoni bread...I have even seen a few come with spaghetti (the noodles are cooked and cold, but the sauce warms them up...again, find a good thermos to keep the sauce hot)

I actually tried to find real "Fluff" so I could send that with her once a week, but no luck here in Denver. :-?

My son's preschool is totally peanut-free so I couldn't ever send a Fluffernutter with him.

Congrats on bucking the "new" norm and putting forth the effort to get your kids eating normally.
You save money, and they will benefit, healthwise, for all their childhood...

...or at least until young adulthood... when they move out... and discover carne asada burritos as an alternate major food group!

Have you/they ever tried fruit roll-ups? :P

Victoria likes these things called "Fruit Leather." Similar concept, but it's actual fruit/no added sugars or anything.

I remember when I was young, Fruit Roll Ups actually had what looked like fruit in them. Now it's just all sugar.

My son eats a TON of yogurt, but my daughter doesn't seem to touch the stuff. She's a fruits and veggies kind of gal. My son will eat ANYTHING you put in front of him.

Actual fruit is good. I remember one of the first things my dentist told me when I was a kid was that fruit roll-up, fruit by the foot, and gushers was the holy trinity of cavities.

Mal,
If you get a wide mouth Thermos
you can also put warm burritos in
and if the thermos is pre heated
they will be warm for lunch!!
not an everyday thing but still neat once in a while. :D
