My name is Tina and I - AKA why I hate Baltimore
I have absolutely no sense of direction. Seriously I get lost going around the block. My son goes to college at UMBC near Baltimore. I get lost just thinking about this area. There's an inner loop an outer loop a beltway. I was at one intersection for I 695. I knew I needed to be somewhere on this road but there was a N.S.E and West all at the same corner. Aargh. I had three stores near his school I wanted to go to to purchase some things for his apt. I spent 2 hours trying to find Sams which was ten miles away. I was in tears. Then I left the school and after a long day and hours in the car I missed the turn for 40 off of the DMB and ended up going home thru philly. By the time I got home I needed a large quantitiy of alcohol or something.
I hate Baltimore. When I got off 95 to get gas/drink there was a large exit sign pointing out the food and gas stations available. As soon as you get off the rd there is an intersection and no direction as to where the food places are. When you leave the large shopping center there are at least 6 exit choices, again no directions to 95. I need TomTom.

it's terrible because people who don't get lost easily look at you like you're an idiot. I usually do well as long as I have a good map or set of directions but it all goes to hell in Maryland. If you get off a road there it is miles til you get an opportunity to get back on and by then i'm more lost

Here's what I really hate....When someone gives me directions? And they say , "When you get off so and so exit, head South...go 2 miles and turn West"
For God's sake...Tell me "Right" or "left" or "There's a Hess Station on one corner and a Church on the other...."
GIVE me some landmarks people...and NOT ESE, or West, whatever..
On the other hand...I have had some interesting "adventures" albeit frustrating.....being lost....
Once , when I was married? I had to call home and say ..."Um, I crossed the border and will be home when I get there"..
He asked me where I was...
and I honestly had to tell him.....Well, I'm either in Georgia or Alabama..and when I find out which? I'll call you back!

I can not explain to mr oc how I have no idea if I'm going east or south. If I leave on the interstate from NJ to some other state he just figures I should know which direction to go. Um, no. We are getting a sail boat and when i was looking for classes I saw courses on navigation, not using electronic devices. I loved the idea and then began thinking about being lost in the middle of the ocean. Yikes.
I don't like being dependent on electronics but I also have to recognize my weaknesses and find ways to work around them.

I've never been 'lost' in my life. I'm great with a map and directions. Going E,W,N,S are soooo much easier when you have mountains as a focal point.
I can't always do that in other cities. But if I have an Atlas, I can do just fine.
E is GREAT with directions. It's uncanny how he can find places and the way back!

I don't know how many stories I've heard about people going the wrong way on the DC beltway. Like they had to go three exits north, but went south and were three exits away on the other side when they realized they went the wrong way and decided to turn around.
Sometimes more than others,
we see who and what and where we are,
I'm just a one man band,
With my feet in the sand,
Tonight I just need my guitar

Be happy you're in America. In lesser developed nations, the directions are make a left at the cantina, then a right at the peeing dog.Conolulu wrote:OceanCityGirl wrote:it's terrible because people who don't get lost easily look at you like you're an idiot.
