Post by reed69 »

hey guys, going to dallas here soon to watch the skins take it to the cowgirls on sunday night football. Just wondering if there was a good area with bars and stuff to try and get a hotel in for downtown dallas . What should we do while there? Anybody been to Texas stadium? Hard to get in and out of ? details? Thanks in advance

I spent several years in Texas while in the military and made numerous trips to dallas. the two parts of the city with all of the good bars and night life are the west end and deep ellum. if you head there you will find something good to do.
I know I dont get there often enough but god knows I surely try

The West End is fabulous for just walking around and eating and bar-hopping.

The World's Largest Hooters is in the West End, too...and there are always kids when I go.

I personally hate getting in and out of Texas Stadium, but the game is fun once you're in your seats.

Lots of hotel rooms north of downtown, too. At Market Center. Restaurant row is just north of there at Loop 12 (Northwest Highway) and I-35 . . . we ate at Joe's Crab Shack and Papacito's during Hoot Island and had a ball. Loved the atmosphere at Joe's and the phood at Papacito's was amazing (Mexican, but really, really good).

The Fairmont is downtown. The Adolphus, too. There was a Sheraton, but I'm not sure it's there anymore. The new W hotel is supposed to be open at the American Airlines Center (within walking distance to The West End).

I haven't eaten in the West End in a while, but almost everything there was always good.

Have a good time!

Ah, yes. The 6th floor. :(
We went there after Hoot Island - it was really interesting and moving - spent more time there than we thought - lots to read, listen to and learn. Be careful tho how much time you spend in the street by the "X" - cars go fast. We also checked out part of the route the car took to hospital but it didn't feel really comfortable after we passed under the bridge so we turned around fairly quickly.

Lots of great sidewalk restraurants too downtown - we went to some Mexican place and sat outside - very good food and fun people watching.
And raccoons brought wine and the mice they brought cheese...

I'll be there as well .... wearing my #44 RIGGINS jersey proudly and loudly. I'll be sitting with a friend who is a Cowboy fan (yet still a friend). I took him to RFK Stadium for a game, which was the last game he and I went to together. It was Troy Aikman's rookie year when the Cowboys went 1-15.

Yep .... the only game the Cowgirls won that year was at Washington at old RFK. Grrrrrrrr. I've been wanting to pay him back ever since.

Go 'Skins!
