If you're going in order of release, then you should appreciate 'You Had To Be There'.

If your a 'live' music fan of JB, I feel it's a must have, especially if you like the first 5/6 studio releases.

Agreed! It's all part of the timeline of where Jimmy was. It will make you want to go back and find some of those earliest live bootlegs.

I hope you get it and listen to it since you are doing them in sequence.

Do keep this thread going and share your thougths about each album.

(Keep in mind that many people didn't hear those first two albums until Before the Salt vinyl was released in 1979. But, don't ask me since my first Buffett album was YHTBT!)

Any of you listeners from way back remember when you first heard Down to Earth and High Cumberland?

That would be a rare listener, indeed. Didn't Down to Earth sell only about 360 copies? And of course, that's why the High Cumberland masters were "lost" (so nobody heard it) until after Jimmy had other successes....

Does anyone know when High Cumberland was "found" and released? My guess is after the success of Margaritaville (late-70's), but I don't know....

What a fun project and approach to his music. As conched said, let us know how it goes. :D

while I have heard the song, I have to say that my collection will always remain free of the first two. There isn't one song on either of them that makes me want to listen to them. It is a great thing that he discovered a different sound after Jerry Jeff and Murph took him to the end of the road.

Yes you're right Alison and a friend of ours found a mint condition copy at the local library album sale about 12 years ago for 50cents! :o :o

If you have ever heard Jerry Jeff's Circus Maximus and Neverland Revisited, you'd hear some of the same sounds. Those WERE The Days.

But, I agree. The best from those two have been re-recorded on other albums.

It's still kinda fun to listen to The Hangout Gang..."Homer, turn that radio down." And I have never understood Death Valley Lives.

Great link!!

Dan, I can't believe 50 cents for Down To Earth. What a find?

Since so many of these have shown up, is there a way to repress vinyl and make copies of them? Just wondering.

My copies of those two and Rancho Deluxe will always be special. I played them today.
