I agree a GA-ZILLION per cent!!! They should take every guy who's STUPID enough to wear a bow tie and put THEM on the front lines in Iraq.
(You may want to consider putting some crazy glue in this guy's Preperation-H. THEN he'll have other things on his mind besides when he'll get on the plane).

I think most of these people choose flying over driving simply because they're too G.D. stupid to read a road map.

The TSA doesn't have the money to do the job properly because our president and the Republican-controlled Congress don't want to give it to them.

I believe that if you were able to ask any of the multitude of fine people working on air travel security issues behind the scenes what they need most, they would all tell you the same thing - money for equipment, training and manpower. They don't have that money now thanks to the Bush administration.
On the flights I have taken in the last 5 years, I've had to show my ID as well as my boarding pass, etc.

Money is not always the answer to everyithing. Have you asked the fine people working on air travel security? So... there are no Democrats that have voted the way you want them to?
I'm Sorry, I've promised myself never to reply to another Flyboy thread, but I just gotta chime in here.

I'm not even sure if flyboy is a commercial pilot by some of the comments.
I'll preface to say that I travel quite often on business 90% international.
1) I cannot remember in the last five years not needing a photo ID before entering security.
2) Unless wearing flip-flops I ALWAYS have to remove my shoes and now belt and watch.
3) Before 911 I never had to step into an explosive detection machine.
4) Before 911 I never had my carry-on swabed for explosives
5) In my observations, Flight crew has NEVER stood in the same security line as I have in Shannon, Dublin, Amsterdam, Paris, Stuttgart, Frankfort, Tokyo or any domestic airport . While my security checkpoint line exceeds one hour in some places, flight crew walks right in, including customs. I rarely see any flight crew scrutinized to the extent the traveling public is. Not that I mind, I'll stand in what ever line need be and go through any check required to get home to my family safely. And I want the flight crew onboard and ready to fly.

So I don't want to hear any WAH -WAH's. Sorry, in IMHO airflight is much safer now.

BTW, how'd ya like to be sitting in a hotel in the Netherlands on 9/11?

So who p*sses you off more-
1)The MORONS who'd take a steamer trunk on board as a CARRY-ON ITEM, then take a friggin' HOUR to try to cram it in the overhead compartment while your just trying to get to your seat, or
2)The idiots who show up at the last minute for their flight then b|tch to high heaven when it takes them ten minutes to go through security?
that's a toss up really. I fly the Delta Shuttle weekly from Boston to New York so I typically see a lot of the same people every week. There is one guy who wears a bowtie (that right there is deserving of death) that refuses to get on the plane until the doors are being shut. He will sit in the terminal drinking his coffee and reading the paper until he is basically forced on the plane. Why he can't drink and read on the plane is behind me... I curse him everytime I see him.
slip something on the banned list into his jacket pocket before he clears security... thoughts of his rewarding and extensive cavity search afterward should offset any anger you for him now...
Speaking of banned substances. On Monday I'm going through security and in my carry on I have a package of those Snackwell cookies that come in the green package (they are very tasty). Well apparently the packaging is some sort of metallic wrapping. They set me aside and start going through all my stuff, which is fine. At the end they tell me I can't bring the cookies on unless they open the wrapper and inspect them. I deemed the cookies to be not that important as to have a TSA agent touch them with their unwashed hands. I have no problem giving up my cookies so long as they continue to catch these yahoos bringing on explosives.

so.. the question is this: are they allowing cell phones to be carried onboard the plane, or are they requiring them to be shipped with the checked baggage?

Studies have shown that worldwide, the chances of a commercial aircraft containing a passenger carrying an explosive device is about 1:2,267,000.

So whenever feasable I always try to carry one with me!
The the chances of two people with explosive devises are incalculable!!! :o (joke, please don't turn me in!!!)

You could bring a bigger bag next time. You can share, and everyone is happy. :)

(I know, the signs say don't feed the TSA agents, or they'll become dependent on handouts, but you know they were angling for a cookie...)

There seems to be a misunderstanding developing here. I think if you review what happened on your last flight, you will realize that the airline passenger agent who checked you in also checked your ID. Your ID is also checked by an airline passenger agent at the gate prior to boarding. Airport security screeners might ask to see your ID but this isn't normal procedure and is simply airport security screeners on a power trip. I do see many travellers offering up their passports, tickets, boarding passes, travel itineraries, etc to security screeners but this simply indicates unfamiliarity with airport security procedures.

As far as flight crews NEVER standing in the same security line as you, it depends on the airport. Also, while it is true that flight crew can go to the head of the line at most airports, they still go through the exact same scrutiny that you do (sometimes even more).

Most airports with Customs checkpoints also have a separate line for flight crews, but that has nothing to do with what I'm talking about.

I don't expect the average traveller to be as familiar with routine airport operations as someone who works in the industry, but if you travel a lot AND pay attention to what's going on around you, I think you'll find that my descriptions are accurate.

As I said above, I wouldn't feel as frustrated about the way airport security screening is handled if I didn't know that many programs and procedures aren't moving ahead or aren't as good as they should be because of a lack of funding.

I don't blame that imbecile in the Oval Office for everything, just the things that he's responsible for. :D

As much as it pains me I have to agree with flyboy on his post. Except the imbecile part.

Another example of how ridiculous it gets...a captain friend tried to board his aircraft, B767, with his flight bag, overnight bag and a cup of coffee. That's 3 carry-ons, a no-no. Had to finish his coffee or toss it before he was allowed to board his aircraft.

In reviewing what happend on my last flight out of Denver in February, my ID was checked by the agent who printed my boarding pass after I electronically checked in. Then I proceeded to Security and had to present my ID and boarding pass before continuing. The gate agents did not ask for my ID.

Same thing here flying 9/12/06 from Orlando to Seattle. I flew in Feb after 9-11 and faced more ID checks then than this past August when things were supposed to be stricter.

Oh!! That's much less fun than I expected it to be! I was thinking it was along the lines of Monkeyboy's vodka vaporizer or something.
