Assemble-Yourself Dinners
Has anyone used a service like this before?
You spend 2 hours twice a month at a place where they do all the prep for you on a preplanned menu. While you're there, you assemble 12 ready-to-freeze dinners. You either bake them or slow cooker them, etc. etc. It costs about $200 for 12 dinners (would actually save us money).
For us, it falls within our budget food buying guidelines and the meals look pretty decent (there's a few different services close by) and servings ample as well as well-rounded and nutritious.
I'm hoping someone has some experience with this.
All I know is I'm exhausted and uber stressed out and doing something like this would seriously help me get out of the house and DO something as well as make dinner a no-brainer every night.
Thoughts?

If there is not a place like this near you:
Get a partner and buy a franchise!
These places are going nowhere but up.
Get in with a plan to farm out all (most of) the labor and then sell the business within 6-10 years. You will make a handsome returns while you own the joint and then let somebody else watch it go down in value as they get conglomerated. (Take your first offer to sell in the fiscal year after you turn a decent profit.)
Think about what happened to video stores in the Eighties.
All your local Mom&Pop stores did huge business untill Blockbuster and Hollywood Video cornered the market.

I'm thinking about it too, Mal......not that I really don't have the time to do it, but this would just make things so much easier!

I haven't looked into it, but have heard of it.
I absolutely abhor cooking and am no good at it.
My husband would kill for decent food around here.
My son isn't picky...yet, but as he gets bigger I know it'll be more of an issue.
This actually sounds like a great idea.
I may have to look into it.
Then all I'll need to buy is drinks, snacks, pet food & personal hygine stuff.

There are a few of these places close by us here in South Jersey. They are called SuperSuppers and a few of the girls at work went for an evening "party" They made dinner, snacked on cheese and drank some wine, at the end they were sloshed AND had dinner made for the next 2 weeks. They said the food was great, just like they woul have made, just a whole lot easier once they got home from the office....
Good Luck!!!
(They have diet meal plans also, portion and calorie controlled menus, just like Jenny Craig, only cheeper!!!)

Re: Assemble-Yourself Dinners
I don't use this sort of thing, but the wife of my husband's best friend does. She loves it and her husband says the meals are good.
I do my own verison of that and often have meals cooked ahead in my freezer.....I just don't go somewhere else to do it.
It's worth a try I think....if you don't like it, nothing says you have to do it again.

Hubby is a great cook, but time is of the essence.Marnin Grita Guy wrote:If you can't cook you should have waited for a man that could.
I can, I am single and open for interviews.
I have umpteen biscuit recipes, and that does not include my sauteing, grilling, and broiling expertise.
Yes I can cook and am proud of it!
I can eat to.
I'm sure you will make some woman very happy one day.

We were thinking of this exact idea! Not sure about the demographics in our area, but in the surrounding areas, they are popping up everywhere. I think this business is a timing thing, they'll be huge for a few years then die out, so your 6-10 year plan sounds good. Maybe 4-6 yearsbuffettbride wrote:Yeah.
