Scammed with real Ticketmaster tickets

Post by fdthird »

Here is my tale of whoa.......

Bought 4 tickets for JB at MSG last night from EBAY back in late July. Did not want to take a chance on the "print them out of your computer" type of tickets, and only bid on hard copy Ticketmaster tickets. So I find tickets that are not priced over the top, bid on them and win. I pay for the tickets with PAYPAL ASAP and a couple of weeks later they show up in the mail. Everything is fine so far and I am happy.

Last night the 4 of us have a nice pre-concert dinner and head over to the Garden. We go through the gates and get our tickets scanned and the guy tells us to go to window 2. Okay, so off we go to window 2 not yet realizing we are in trouble (okay...so we had a drink or two with dinner). That, however, changed quickly when the lady at window 2 runs the 4 tickets through her computer and then tells me that they are no good. "Are they counterfeits?", I ask her. She says that they are real Ticketmaster tickets but that the person who originally bought these 4 tickets reported them as "non-delivered" and Ticketmaster issued 4 new tickets rendering the 4 that I had useless. So take warning...even if they look like real Ticketmaster tickets, they still may not get you into a concert!

The whole ticket situation is bad and someone has to address it. You can not get into Ticketmaster's phone or web system the day tickets go on sale but obviously hundreds of "scalpers" have a back door and can as tickets are all over the internet. A $56 ticket is being sold for 2+ times the face value. I'm sorry but I think the artists need to get involved because it is their fans that are getting screwed. There must be a better way!

Sorry to hear your story :(

I have never understood how someone could print their own ticket, then run those tickets through a copy machine, all having the same barcode. Then, the first person into the venue gets in while the others are out of luck. Doesn't matter who had the "real" ticket. Isn't that the current policy?

The "non-delivered" scam you told about is new to me, but just as devious.

Regardless, you won't find many friends of TicketMaster here...

I really hate the Ticketmaster operates. But your issue is an EBay issue. A risk you take when buying them from the secondary market.

You're right...it is a risk you take but with the horrible system that they have to buy tickets, is there a lot of choice??

That sucks. And I realize this wouldn't have helped you last night when you needed it... but doesn't ebay and/or paypal offer some kind of insurance (particularly paypal) against things like this? Sorry if someone already said this.. I didn't read the whole way through yet!

To answer your questions....

The Garden did nothing but we were immediately set upon by other folks who wanted to "help" and sell us tickets at deep discounts. We were not interested in being screwed again and went home.

I am working with EBAY but PAYPAL will do nothing. You can only file a claim with them within 45 days of the payment which is fine if you are buying a toaster, but if you are buying venue tickets back in July for a mid September concert...tuff luck! To me that's not right either.

So far the guy I bought them from is saying that he's never heard of this happening before. Don;t expect to get my money back because frankly it's just my word against his. Who's to say I didn't use the tickets. Oh well, live and learn.

Is the ticket exchange here safer???

for the record, that's fraud. Report it to Ebay and the local police.

That is awful. . and a scenario that I never considered. I am surprised MSG wasn't more helpful in sending security over to the seats. It could be whomever was sitting there, bought them legitimately - but it might be a step closer to finding out who scammed you. (It sounds like you didn't purchase them from the original buyer?)

Good Luck with Ebay. I hope you still have the tickets. . proof that you didn't use them.

That's not completely fair, though.... Really.... There ARE folks who have lurked for some time and then post tickets for sale. Yes, I'd rather see a higher post count, but that doesn't guarantee safety, either.... I really think suspicious is too strong a word..... Cautious, yes..... Suspicious? Too strong, I think....

Good Luck with Ebay. I hope you still have the tickets. . proof that you didn't use them.
But there's no way to know that the people sitting in the seats didn't legitimately buy them and have them stolen from their mailbox, then they wound up in the hands of the scalper.

Although I would think the seller (especially if they're a real broker) would help you out- that couldn't be good for business. I know if I saw feedback that they sold you tickets that were basically reported stolen, I would run, even if it was accidental.

Have you tried contacting TM or the Garden to get something in writing to verify that the tickets were bad?

Definitely put negative feedback on e-bay. also alert ebay to the fraud. it hurts their business if you get burned and tell everyone about it. since then all of us will be reluctant to use e-bay too.

i did get my tickets from the ticket exchange this time. the fellow didn't have a lot of posts, but was local to my city. Got them for face and they were fine.

The ticket thingie is always a crapshoot

I have had two fantastic ticket buying stories, and both were done here, through BN'rs that I actually met face to face in the parking lot. And nevr had a problem.

And they turned out to be two of the best concert experiences of my life.
