Lost my Virginity Last Nite............
Yup!! I am no longer a virgin!!
Not sure this is the right place to discuss this, but.......
several folks suggested i report on my first Jimmy Buffett concert last nite, actually, my first rock concert of any kind, and here goes...
First of all, it was probably the most exhausting experience of my life....it may mean that ole ladies are not cut out for rock concerts...the noise, the crowds, the endless walk thru the Garden to my 3rd row seat......
It is very difficult to stand dancing and singing for almost 3 hours, non stop, but, that said, it was an outstanding experience...not quite like the first virginity loss, but.....
I have watched all of Mr. Buffett's videos, at least the commercially availale ones, but they didnt adequately prepare me for what a consumate entertainer he is....not a great singer, only a competent player, but a sensational stage presence......funny, gracious, playful, clever, and of course, sexy.
It was very moving to see the Here We Are video, much appreciated by this audience, as were his video shots of NYC, ground zero, fire fighters and lady liberty during Jake's National Anthem, if I remember correctly.
He at several points discovered that the New York City audience was not all that sophisticated, not only during Desparation Samba and with its WDWGD preferences, but also with Werewolves of London, when the Garden rang with happy WOOOOOOOs.
I was desolate that Dixie Chicken was missing from the setlist for the first time in months, it seems, while I was counting on it to make up for Jake's absence.
But it was lovely to hear Party On The Far Side of the World and the sensational Bama Breeze, and to be there for the first presentation of Everybody's on the Phone, tho I'm not sure yet how I feel about that one....
Over all, in spite of having woked in NYS mental hospitals, I dont believe that in all of my advanced years (way past Mr. Buffett's) I have ever seen so many absolutely insane folks in one place at the same time!! And the wildest were the crowd sitting behind the stage...their area was often lit up and with their antics, jumping, waving, shouting, dancing, they looked like part of the show!!
As i said elsewhere here, if Mr. Buffett is HALF as tired as I am today, he is spending the day sleeping a well deserved sleep. I am virtually crippled today, but my feet will heal, and I wouldnt have missed it for anything.
Another one? I will be looking for a nice small venue with an acoustic setlist to travel to next.......Mr Buffett????????

Congrats! And it is a very sane form of insanity, isn't it!
Not quite your age, but I too find the whole thing exhausting, and my back and feet take days to forgive me.
But I wouldn't trade the experience for anything!
Now you need to plan for your next concert!

He usually only plays Dixie Chicken when Bill Payne from Little Feat is sitting in with the band.Pleasin & Teasin wrote:I was desolate that Dixie Chicken was missing from the setlist for the first time in months, it seems, while I was counting on it to make up for Jake's absence.

Aw...thanks so much for sharing your story, P&T!!
I laughed and smiled and sighed while I read. You made my day!
I love reading stories like yours...watching someone find and live the magic. And no one is ever too old or too young...it's all a state of mind. Peter Pan has nothing on Jimmy Buffett.
What did your two virgin friends think of the experience?
Oh yeah...and what is your very favorite memory from last night?

My two friends were young ladies in their early 20s--I doubt that either are...well, never mind that....my niece, a singer herself, didnt know Mr Buffet well, and said she enjoyed it alot for about 1 1/2 hours...she has ADD and that's a very long time for her to be able to focus on somethihng., The other young lady was already a Buffett fan and loved it all.Quiet and Shy wrote:

My favorite memory....(says she, grinning thru the pain)...I guess it was when Mr. Buffett grabbed a life preserver off the stage set and tossed it to one of the rowdy folks behind the stage....and said he didnt want to see it on ebay. And his giving his sweat bands to a couple of kids. Also, finally seeing HERE WE ARE, and a much more listenable version than earlier

And I haven't been to a venue where they sit-just doesn't happen with Buffett!
And you should try the Tinley Park venue-3 hours standing on concrete on a downward slant!

I don't know. He was in the group to our left. We were to the right, more behind Doyle & the life guard stand. My keet had the "Get Milk & Moo" sign. Jimmy kept looking back & waving to her.Pleasin & Teasin wrote:Nah!! it was fun to watch you all!! Who got the life preserver?Tropic_Al wrote:P&T. Glad you had fun. It's not just a concert, it's an event. And those crazy people behind the stage...hope we weren't too out of hand. We were having a blast.
