I know you think you're being humorous, but I work for an animal rescue and after the things we've encountered, jokes about torturing pets have ceased to be even slightly funny.

it's uncalled for, torturing of any animal should be a felony

In Indiana it is a felony. Funny for a state that still has some very backwards laws, we are one of the first to make animal cruelty a felony. And it has been enforced very well too.
All states should follow it. I also have worked (volunteered) at a shelter and to see some of the things people do makes you think they are getting off easy with a felony conviction.
