LeDoux's music is amazing, and the older music (before he and Garth hooked up) is so from the heart. When I was in Cheyenne this July for Frontier Days, they had a special Chris LeDoux section of the Frontier Days Museum. Not only where there pictures of him as a kid and a lot of concert footage, but copies of handwritten lyrics and such.

While I listen to Jimmy and other trop rock artists most
of the time(Coral Reefers, Scott Kirby, Sunny Jim, Hugo
Duarte, Jim Morris etc). I do listen to the new country acts a lot
(Kenny Chesney, Toby Keith, and others) because I too
like that 1) I understand the lyrics and 2) most of the songs
tell a story. I know purists don't consider"new country" country
and that's okay(hey, I grew up a Johnny Cash fan), but I still
enjoy the music. That being said I am just as easily entertained
by classical, AC/DC type rock, southern rock or Sinatra. I am
open to most music except extreme heavy metal or rap.

When DISCO [smilie=puker.gif] was around I went to the country bars. And there's a fine line twixt Southern Rock and country. Now a daze, that line is even more blurred by so called country folks playing what to me is pure unadulterated good ol' rock n roll,, just sung with a twang.. (Or even an AUSSIE accent.. ala Keith Urban.)
I'm really in it for the guitarists.. I love Chet Atkins and now Brad Paisley is filling his shoes admirably.

Rock on,,,, y'all!
so country really isn't country..
Not any more IMHO... nobody's pure country lately (Let's exclude Bluegrass which is still fairly pure.)

It's only Rock and Roll,, but I like it.

Other than Willie, I don't have any country CDs, but when I listen to commercial radio (not often) it is usually a country station.

I would rather put my head in a wood chipper than listen to contemporary country.....I definitely lean towards heavier rock when not listening to JB....

I've never really been a fan of country music... In fact, LTC took me a couple of years to really enjoy listening to...

We need an option for "I'd rather gouge my eardrums with a rusty nail."

I've a feeling the new album may be like that, too.....
I finally just burned a few songs from LTC on to a disc with some other JB songs....I never did gain an appreciation for the entire album.....

We dont have any country radio in NYC, so.....

Excuse a stupid question, but what, exactly, is country? Is Jerry Jeff country? Is James Taylor country?...neither of them, nor Mr Buffett, are my idea of 'rock'........

guess I dont like music by catagory...just song by song...

love all kinds of music...folk, jazz, pop, broadway, classical, .....and whatever those guys are!!

I'd suggest country today is what you find on "Country" radio stations, on CMT or GAC TV stations, in "Country" section of CD and DVD bins, what is written up as "Country" on-line, etc. (So basically as defined by today's music industry).

I love Bob Wills, Patsy Cline and Asleep at the Wheel.

I've seen Loretta, Conway, Merle, Cash, Willie and Waylon at the Rio Palm Isle in Longview for a quarter and all the beer you could drink. If I had a nickel for every time I've had to pick me or someone else up off that fabulous dance floor, we could all go to Maui for a Jimmy show!

Do I listen to country on the radio? Nope. But it's on my iPod and CD changer, so I hear it a lot in shuffle. :D

George Jones was interviewed on XM Channel 10 last week, and his quote was "I'm all for calling a spade a spade, and this music coming out of Nashville these days is not what I would call country. I don't now what to call it, but it isn't country."

I am now all-Sirius all the time, in my van.

When we travel in the hubby's truck, it's country or oldies.

On Sirius I vacillate between oldies and Margaritaville.

And the comedy channels.

What I'd like is to have a station like that FM one we heard in Memphis up in the 90's (the station number), they played the most cool fantastic music I've ever heard, like: Ray Wylie Hubbard's "SNAKE FARM" . Ohmygosh I LOVE that song. So ookie, cool, funny, good !!!!

Snake Farm: just sounds nasty
Snake Farm: purdy much is..................................

If you're unfortunate enough to be flipping stations during these programs you might get a taste. :D It's happened to me a few times. Feels like an out-of-body experience.

I read most of the postings on BN but reply to few, but I had to on this one. I can't even use the words Country and Music in the same spoken sentence! If it was not for Jimmy's music I would not listen to one note!
