Do I get a choice?? If my neices aren't listening to the rat's radio station, I am lucky to listen to the classic rock. To make matters worse, there are only two country stations in Orlando. And our van won't pick up either one!!!!! I rarely find anything I like on the radio. [smilie=eyeroll.gif]

I don't think it's a coincidence that my country music listening DECLINED

....in equal proportion to my WHISKEY drinking  :-?

Interesting replies. I confess I'm a bit surprised so much Country (beyond Buffett) showed up in the poll.

I put less that 10%. Back in the early-late-80's I listened to a bunch of country. And, I still have some vinyl and a few tapes that reflect that. Somewhere along the line I got away from country after that, though. I'm more rock with some pop with occasional jazz, classical and blues mixed in. I've tried to get back into today's country (around LTC), but it just hasn't clicked.

My favorite local station is "world class rock" (independent, www.wttsfm.com )...pretty much everything from the Beatles forward.

Hated country until the '80s. Hated '80s rock, so I listened to country and
even worked at a country radio station as my first gig out of college.
(My teenaged self never would have believed it.)

Learned to like the old country then, but never really loved it.
I like Hank Jr. better than his daddy.

In the late 90s and early 2000s, I started liking rock again, because it
sounded more like the 70s again.

I'm a little bit country (less than 50%), and a whole lot of rock & roll.
I like Keith Urban and Toby Keith. And Nelly Furtado and the Black Eyed
Peas. :o

My teenaged son is following in my footsteps. HATES country and
unfortunately thinks Jimmy is country. He is into Pink Floyd, AC DC, etc.

My favorite rock station (pop) changed formats three years ago to
contemporary Christian, and after some withdrawal I started liking that.

Then, our local talk radio changed to adult contemporary Christian, so
we either listen to that or CDs.

SharkOnLand wrote:The very early albums were country, and obviously LTC, but I don't think you can classify the majority Jimmy's music as "Country"... There may be a twang here and there, but he's from the south, so there will definitely be a little twang. If I had to classify Jimmy, it would be more "island folk rock" or something... It has some elements similiar to some country music, but you're going out on a limb saying Jimmy is country... What country singer takes a ukelele player out on the road with him?

That being said, it doesn't surprise me that LTC and TTWWY are country-oriented... Yes, that's where he started, and it's where he's gotten recognition from lately. It disappoints me, but it doesn't surprise me.
"Calypso poet" is the way Jimmy put it. [smilie=coolup.gif]

I'm pretty eclectic.

So, aside from JB and TropRock, which in itself is eclectic....

I grew up listening to my Mom's country and my Rock, but then Rock turned into Disco, so I went back to Country...
(and spent several April's at the Bob Wills Festival in Turkey, TX  )

...yes, the Eagles are Country. :P

So, It all depends on how you define it.
I still love Pink Floyd & Aerosmith, but I also love alot of the Country that's out there, too.

I'm also a huge Blues fan and have attended several Blues festivals.

The great thing about liking all kinds of music is that there's always something different to go with the mood I'm in.

Oh, and my husband plays Jazz Saxaphone.

Hey...I have a degree in Agricultural Economics, spent a summer living and working on a dairy and beef farm (college internship)...and also worked 11 years in agribusiness. How's that for a kid from suburban Chicago?

I grew up on the likes of Johnny Cash and the Carter family and Hank Sr. and enjoyed country rock when the Eagles, the Outlaws, the Flying Burrito Brothers were doing their thing and somewhere in the early to mid 80's Chet Atkins turned country music into watered down pop music with either a fiddle or a steel guitar and lost me. What passes for country music today isn't country nor is it western, it's pure pop music. So I listen to Willie, Waylon and the boys and Merle still moves my soul and now I've added the likes of Steve Earle and Robert Earl Keene to my list of people I listen to when I'm in the mood for country.
