I don't think attempted suicide and/or clinical depression severe enough to trigger it is something to be made fun of, no matter who does it.rednekkPH wrote:He couldn't even get this right...![]()
Just posted on this in the NFL thread:
http://www.buffettnews.com/forum/viewto ... t=#2309066
35 pain pills IS enough to kill him if his friend had not sought help, so this is a serious cry for help.
However, it is interesting that he made the attempt with another person in the home who could save him, indicating (to me) that he wants help.
While the circumstances are obviously unclear, he's fortunate that she witnessed him taking the pills and called 911 or he could have just gone to sleep and not woken up.

People serious about suicide don't attempt it, they accomplish it. Cry for help or attention seeker, subjective to be sure.
that said
T.O., given his past public outbursts and otherwise attention getting manuevers is about the attention. He is no more serious about suicide than Jimmy is about retiring.

He had an allergic reactionCaptainP wrote:His PUBLICIST is now claiming there was no suicide attempt.
She was, however, the person who called 911 in the first place and reported it.
I posted this in the other thread:
From the story on MSN, the publicist claims an allergic reaction...
Link here: http://msnbc.msn.com/id/15021827/?GT1=8506Kim Etheridge, Owens' publicist, is the woman described in the police report as his friend, the newspaper reported.
Etheridge said Wednesday that Owens had an allergic reaction to pain medication and supplements, the newspaper reported.
Sheesh, they changed the story again. Now she's claiming he mixed pain pills with "supplements".... It read as quoted above earlier...

I've never heard of someone being released from the hospital within 24hours after a suicide attempt, his publicist is probably telling the truth about allergic reaction.

As high profile as he is, especially with the medical staff of the Cowbows, I wouldn't doubt he'd be out of the hospital as soon as he was detoxed...thebeachbumm33 wrote:I've never heard of someone being released from the hospital within 24hours after a suicide attempt, his publicist is probably telling the truth about allergic reaction.
Besides, the publicist has already changed her tune about the allergic reaction... I'll believe a police report over a publicist any day... Publicists are paid to spin everything.

Well, they are definitely trying to spin it, but there's not enough spin in the world to justify taking 35 pain pills for your hand hurting really bad when you get home from the practice field - even if you did take some supplements, too.
As far as him being released from the hospital, he was taken to the nearest medical facility that could pump his stomache, so I feel certain that he was released into the care of a private Psychiatrist or Psychologist, probably with the intent to receive more intensive treatment at another inpatient facility (more private).
I would be surprised if he is not under 24-hour supervision at this point.

From my years of experience with a suicidal ex MIL and SIL I know Dallas has only 1 hospital that will hold you for a psych eval after a suicide attempt and that's Parkland and even then you can be released to a family member before the 72 hour psych eval. TO was taken to Baylor which is known to clean you out and then release you if you're physically stable.
Well...(said in my best Bubba voice) I've been on sabbatical.

Just like most of you, I can't really stand the guy either. But, it makes me sad to think about anyone trying to do something like that to themselves (even if it was just for attention and not a "real" attempt).
I guess the old saying about money not being able to buy happiness, is ringing true in this case.
Wish him the best and hope he can get it back together.
