Hey, conched, way to pound the cyber-asphalt. Thanks for the digging. I think this person Jaan Uhelszki needs a hug, don't you? He or she seems jumpy and nervous and is reading a lot into these tea leaves. The river of blood pouring out from a wound that will not heal in Reggabilly Hill IS ominous, but I don't have any idea what is referred to; Party at the End of the World SOUNDS ominous, but the end of the world referred to is Ushuaia: Wheel Within A Wheel is cosmic but certainly not cataclysmic. My favorite phrase from this review is "fear that hangs like a mushroom cloud over these 14 songs." Huh???
backbeat, Thanks for you thoughts too!
She is a female according to this site. She has done some editorial reviews on amazon for MMIM and T, TH, Sat. Those always try to sell the CDs anyway..don't they?

Pop/rock: Jimmy Buffett, Take the Weather With You ( * * * )
Somewhere between utopia and apocalypse, there’s the party at the end of the world. Buffett’s latest shindig begins at a local haunt in Alabama and winds up on Waikiki Beach, with detours through post-Elvis Memphis, post-Katrina New Orleans and Tierra del Fuego, too. Within the shared death, tragedy and devastation, Buffett finds community and, in Breathe In, Breathe Out, Move On, something that, if it’s not hope, is at least a determined sort of looking ahead. — Brian Mansfield

"Breathe In, Breathe Out, Move On" and "Duke's On Sunday" are fabulous.
I was a bit underwhelmed with the first listen, but as I was on the road, I had time to hear the CD three times. It's a very clever weave of ideas and themes, imo.
"Wheel Within A Wheel" is such a great track. Two songs later, "Breathe In, Breathe Out, Move On" punctuates the celebration of New Orleans with, ultimately, a prayer based on hope and perseverance.
It may be awhile before I can fully endorse "Everybody's On The Phone," but this is not so much because I don't like the song. Rather, I would include it in another collection.
The music is fantastic, imo. Sonny Landreth, on many levels, gives this CD an ethereal element with high octane energy.
I am amazed that some reviewers consider this a "country" CD. I would say it is a typical Buffett CD, with a wide range of influences.
On my first listen, I became mesmerized during "Breathe In," and this spell was certainly enhanced by the final track. As I am a University of North Carolina fan , I was not thrilled by the title, but I had to let that go as it has nothing, absolutely nothing, to do with durm, NC. "Dukes On Sunday" is a wonderful track.

C+ for me...
Couple of good songs, couple of bad songs, bunch of OK songs. No real unfamiliar territory, and nothing jumps out at me, like "Scarlet Begonias" did on LTC. My criteria for an album is my desire to hear the songs live; this one sounds like an album of "beer break" songs....OK, but not spectacular.
Also, this (to me anyways) is one of the most poorly mixed Buffett discs I've heard in a while. His vocals are buried in the mix throughout, especially on "Weather With You".

I can see "Everybody's on the Phone" as a "Brooks & Dunn"/Tim McGraw/other shlock country act-tryin'-to-sound-country-rather-than-rock song...
