I so agree!! I spent most of my roadtrip closely listening to a couple of cds - trying to hear all the lyrics, and realizing that each time I listened, I heard something different!captenuta wrote:Actually I like to listen to new music while driving. If your out driving you can focus on it better.SchoolGirlHeart wrote:even giving allowances for the sound quality of the clips, I don't think I need to be drinking to like this one.captenuta wrote:We shouldn't pass judgement on the new cd untill we all have a chance to listen to it while were drinking. I'm sure it will sound much better while dinking a bunch of beers.![]()
but then, I don't come in with expectations... I listen to the music and decide whether or not I like it. So far, I like it.

And having Fingers there and playing during this song made it great too!SchoolGirlHeart wrote:I wasn't sure I'd like that one, but hearing it at MSG locked in the fact that I really like it a LOT. It's not horrible, but I need to hear that a few more times.I think that the band energy went up a couple of notches when the song began, and it got the crowd into it, even though they didn't know it (more so than a few regular songs that are not on the yellow album that the crowd wasn't as into...).

I said this on some other post but I have to say it again - if TTWWY is as good - or even half as good - as LTC then that's two fantastic albums in a row. As long as there are no Math Suks or Cultural Infidel or Turning Around type songs - all three being Jimmy's worst. Three out of what, 27 studio albums - that's pretty good.
I laugh at how all the people who don't like LTC just don't seem to.....

I got the album on Saturday from Mailboat and I have listened to it several times since then, including right now.
It may have a lot of "covers" on it, but I think it has some good tunes. I personally don't care what genre it is, if I like the music I will listen to it. And I like the music, so I think its a good album.

Yeah, I agree with that.Stephen Thomas Erlewine wrote:...but in order to get with Buffett's party you have to share Buffett's attitude — in other words, if you're not already a Parrothead, Weather With You is not the album to win you over, since it is pure, unadulterated Jimmy Buffett, containing everything his fans love about him and everything his detractors hate.
Stephen Thomas Erlewine wrote:Apart from the title track, there is nothing unexpected here — and that's unexpected not only because it's a left-field choice for Buffett, but because it's performed with a grace and subtlety the song deserves — but after a contemporary country album, that's exactly what his fans want, and they're bound to be pleased by Take the Weather With You, which captures Jimmy Buffett in his full beach bum glory.
Title track? which one would that be? And yes, I totally agree, Jimmy does give his fans what they want.
But given what STE said about Banana Wind,
I think he really likes this album.Stephen Thomas Erlewine wrote:there's not a single distinctive song on the record, which means it's good for Parrotheads, but casual fans should let this Banana Wind sail on by.
Hey Snake, we need more wine!

Here is another good review I found: (Well the review wasn't good writing, but...you know what I mean--5 Stars for the album!)

Jimmy Buffett - Take The Weather With You
From Jolene Downs
Guide Rating - *****
The Bottom Line
Take the Weather With You is a wonderful tribute from Jimmy Buffett to his love of country music. He doesn't give up his unique style, but incorporates it into the music to make Island Country. His love of the genre shines through and this album is well worth checking out. It may not be traditional, but it is great music and great lyrics.
Pros
"Whoop de Doo"
"Silver Wings"
"Wheel Inside the Wheel"
Cons
None.
Description
14 Tracks.
Released by Mailboat Records/RCA Nashville.
Produced by Michael Utley and Mac McAnally.
Guide Review - Jimmy Buffett - Take The Weather With You
Jimmy Buffett received such a warm welcome from the country music fans from his last album that he decided to do another project with a country flavor. Take The Weather With You is Buffett style all way. Island print shirts and flip flops meet weathered cowboy hats and scuffed cowboy boots. There is only one Jimmy Buffett and he adds his very distinctive style to an eclectic selection of music. He flawlessly combines his unique style with the country flavor and the end result is very easy on the ears. The devastation of New Orleans hit him hard and a few of the lyrics give testament to his love of that city.
Songs like "Bama Breeze" and "Cinco de Mayo in Memphis" are the light easy sound and carefree lifestyle idea that Buffett has perfected. "Whoop de Doo" is a misleading title for a heart-wrenching ballad. "Elvis Presley Blues" pays tribute to The King with an Island sound. "Wheel Inside the Wheel" really caught my attention. It has a New Orleans Jazz sound meets the Islands and really delves into some of the heart and soul of the New Orleans life. And "Silver Wings" by Buffett was a whole new sound experience. I was a little skeptical of his interpretation of this incredible classic, but he pulled off the Island sound in the background and made it his. This album has a definitely different sound than the normal traditional country, but that doesn't negate the talent Buffett has and his love of the genre. It is a great album.

JIMMY BUFFETT
Baby Boom icon, best-selling author and seafaring adventurer Jimmy Buffett may be best known for his breezy island escapism and stiff margaritas, but his 40th album "Take the Weather With You" reveals a more complicated man beneath the ever-present baseball cap. Crouched behind the ringing steel drums and lazy liquid guitar licks is someone who is not at peace with this world, and is sounding an alarm the only way he knows how: with deceptively lighthearted lyrics that only slightly mask his tight paranoia. His thong-wearing women, low-slung hammocks and strong rum drinks are all there, but they're overshadowed by fear that hangs like a mushroom cloud over these 14 songs, many of them penned by musicians as disparate as Jesse Winchester, Mary Gauthier, Gillian Welch and Mark Knopfler, who appears on the disc with Brit jam band Gomez. Images of big silver planes, religious zealots and rivers of blood mar Buffett's azure skies. There's something more authentic and deeply engaged here, and it elevates the album far beyond the comic books for Yuppies he's been turning out for the past two decades.
