Mississippi G’damn
Posted by Will under Blog

I love Mississippi. It’s a most misunderstood place. I have good friends here. They treat me like…well, they treat me like friends. It’s hard to draw a crowd in clubs right now. Any artist would tell you this. Unless they’re a big draw I reckon. I am going to stay out here and play my songs as long as I can. Is it crazy to even be out here? Someone tell me. I need some feedback. I was just barred from playing a big festival, one that had been real friendly to the possibility of me playing the festival…but I have been barred (does that mean banned?) because of what my new record Americanitis says. I know the best career move would be to write songs that say “party party party” and “love girl love girl love girl” and have lots of guitar solos to show off my talents. But the fact is we are at war and possibly focusing most of our national military energy on the wrong country and I could not just make a happy happy hippy pop guitar solo record during this time. I have said—Peace is better than War (unless you HAVE to go to war) and Love is Better than Fear (which leads to Hate). I stand by this. Without any hesitation. I am not an important person. What I say on my record is not original. But I feel like it needs to be said, over and over again. So I’m here doing it. Love and peace my friends. Hug a veteran. Kick a self serving politician. Do it today.

I don't necessary agree with Will but censoring him is absurd.

As a side point he played at Millsaps College, here in Jackson, Tuesaday night and he was great.

I'm 33 and was probably the yougest person there. It was an Artist Series event and i think most of the people there were sponders of te event.

You know I have no tolerence for the intolerent! :D

I saw Will back in August when he played with Rodney Crowell and he played a number of songs from the new album. They were great songs and no one seemed to have a problem with them. Mind you this was an outdoor concert in downtown Salt Lake City so I'm stunned that Mississippi would turn out to be more conservative the SLC.

There was a lot of talk about this on the Todd Snider list today...

One person suggested that this type of censorship tends to boost album sales.

So that's a positive note there. :)
