It was in the early or mid 70's. On a flight from SFO to Hawaii. Jimmy and iI guess it must have been Jane were sitting in front of me. He was not very well known at that time. I was wasted. The flight had been delayed six plus hours by the time we all boarded. I have always felt that I contribued to the Weather is Here, wish you were you Beautiful, because I was on my 14th cocktail before the wheels of the plane left the ground. Anyway I have been with Jimmy since the Boarding House days in the 70's. It gets better every year.

. . ok . . here is another . . this one of Captain Tony . .

~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~

Here's our Cap'n Tony story . .

in the eatly 90's we were at M'Ville Key West and bought a small fold out map of Key West , showing lots of Jimmy points of interest . .one side was a street map with numbered circles, the other side had a small description of each and usually a song reference. We took this and turned it into a scavenger hunt, to find all the places and get that number signed . .

one of the stops was The Chart Room . .we located the numbered circle and off we went. . . We walked in and there was no one there but a very nice, pretty bartender. .we started talking and showed her our map . .she was helping us plan our next visit , then all of a sudden asked " want to meet Cap'n Tony . . ? " of couse we did. . .well, the next thing I knew she was on the phone and 10 minutes later he walked into the bar . .so here we all sat , drinkin beer and eating hot dogs she had made in a crock pot . . As much as he was hittin on us , I got the impression they were "very" good friends. . .after about an hour of one-on-one chit chat , they both signed our map and we went on about our way . .then saw him again that night at his place, and he acted like he had known us for 50 years. .

so, yes when I heard the interview it was exactly like re-living that special afternoon . . .

and another chapter in our book . .
p.s. we took pictures , but the camera double exposed so we have one of him strangely positioned in a palm tree. .

" Stories from OUR bookshelf "

~ ~ ~ ~ ~

. .sigh . .even I enjoy re-reading these stories . . ! !

The last time I talked to him was aboard the EUPHORIA II in St Thomas, November 1978, the morning of the annual Pina Colada Regatta. He was rather hung over, said he had planned to sail with us aboard ANTARES in the Regatta but changed his mind due to his condition. He had played aboard ANTARES the previous Thursday night. Friday night he played at the Calabash bar in St T, guess he needed some rest Saturday.

I don't have anything to compare to the stories here, but
10 years ago the sister of a hockey goalie I was coaching
worked for a Boston ticket agency and got me front row
for all 3 Great Woods shows during the Domino College tour.
That was the year Jimmy was taking Polaroids and tossing out
the photos. I was in the same spot each night, so the last night
Jimmy took my photo(very mature of me in a balloon hat) and
walked over to me and said "here ya go". That week he also
gave me a wristband on two nights, a PH condom during WDWGDAS,
the set lists and shook my hand each night. His camerawoman also
put me on the big screen to sing SOB during Changes. That was my
fantasy concert week  A few years ago I got a quick autograph
from JB outside the Today Show after a concert.

A much cooler story comes from a friend of mine who owns a local
flooring business. He didn't realize that I was a Parrothead and told
me that back in the 70s he was a hippie and lived out of a VW bus on
Mallory Square. Seems he was at Capt Tony's and the Captain said
anyone who wants to leave, get out now cause he was locking the
door til 8am. Guess who the guitarist was that played and partied
til 8am--yup JB. He gave me other stories too from back in the day,
but I thought that was really cool. He got locked in with CT and JB
on another occasion too.

Well ! He does have a nice hair pattern on his arms and legs !
It looks so....uh....nice !! [smilie=battingeyes.gif]

And speaking of meeting Capt. Tony: you gotta ask jimolliemom about when SHE met him. Let's just say there was some grabbage of the buttage and tongue-age when kissing. :o :o :o
1992, worked for Westinghouse communities building golf course communities...Grand opening celebration in Ft. Myers was a golf and music festival, invitees were Jimmy, Vince Gill, Glenn Frey, Greg Norman, Nick Price, Steve Elkington, Dan Marino, Don Strock, Peter Jacobsen. Was supposed to pick Jimmy up at Page field but he arrived early and got his own ride. Damn...Had to drive a Drunk(but very funny) Dan Marino around..later, standing with a group of the guys, shooting the s**t for about 10 minutes, the short guy next to me, that had been there the entire time said something that made me snap my neck...Jimmy!!! Had a short but cool conversation about how I admired his music...we shook hands and he made sure he asked my name...14 years later and I still get a nod and acknoweldgement when I can get front row....
I played 18 holes of golf with him that weekend! It was out at the new Gateway course, all of the weekend was a fundraiser that Glen Frey organized.
Jimmy won closest to the pin on the front nine. I'm a lousy golfer and we mostly talked about fishing, he had just recently caught his first Permit on fly. I had a picture of me and my 2 month old daughter standing in front of my flats skiff "Lil Miss Magic" and Jimmy autographed it for me.
Before the round of golf was over Jimmy asked if I would take him fishing for tailing redfish, I gave him my phone number but never heard anything from him.
He was very gracious to everyone that came up to him asking for autographs and talking with him.
