Yeah, those Barnes & Noble clips really are gettin' folks excited! NOT. ':)'
At least, not tejas, irishcajunphan, and photogal. I thought there was an interesting variety of stuff there, myself. Perhaps, they will be more receptive to the full-length versions on Radio M'ville tomorrow when the head parrot makes his pitch to us.

I'm quite excited about this album!
One of my favorite stories that Cuervo told once (although he tells it much better of course!) is of the delivery guy that used to come to his office every day and ask who he was listening to. Of course JB was always the answer....and the guy was amazed that the music sounded so varied - all from the same guy!
This may have a different sound and feel to it than some albums in the past, but I'm looking forward to hearing the rest, and I like the songs I've had the good fortune to listen to live already this year! Tomorrow I will definitely be listening, and buying the cd when it comes out too!

I have a coastal confession to make here...
I know that saying anything negative about Buffett is generally frowned upon, but I'm afraid this album might end up being one of my least favorite. I had the suspicion when I saw the track list and noticed a bunch of the "silly" songs. By "silly" I mean tracks that remind me of "Cheeseburger In Paradise", "I Wish Lunch Would Last Forever", "Baby's Gone Shoppin", "Altar Boy", etc. Last album had "Simply Complicated". Basically those songs that make me cringe when they come on. The ones that a "non-believer" points to when it comes on and says, "See, I told you. Buffett sucks". Hard to disagree when Jimmy is belting out some of these.
But this album overdoes it on first listen..."Everybody's On The Phone", "Party at the End of the World", "Elvis Pressley Blues", Whoop de do". I just have a sick feeling that most of this album is going to be intolerable Buffett.
I'll buy the album. I'd buy it just for "Bama Breeze" which I think is a great song. I'm intrigued by "Weather with You". "Silver Wings", "Breathe In, Breathe Out, Move On" and "Duke's On Sunday" all sound pretty good too.
I just find the album a little lacking on first impression. I hope I'm wrong. And I hope Buffett is not trying to be cute with these albums just because country radio plays obnoxious (again, my opinion) music. I heard a song called "Drinkin' Bone" the other day that had the line "The Drinkin' Bone's connected to the Party Bone, etc"...you get the picture.
I know Buffett has the tendency to drop one of these bombs on us each album, but I could do without 6-7 of them.

i think the variety is probably the best thing about this one ( cinco seemed to have someting ). now that being said, everyone from the aerosmith to the stones get to a point where they sound like they are repeating the same album and i don't know why. i know the flaming will come, and i have on my asbestos underware on
, but i love jimmy as much as the next guy/girl here, but i just believe he made better music ( as most everyone does ) when he was struggling to get started or still somewhat new to success or when he was going through all of the hard times with jane. it just has no fire/passion to me, almost being sung monotone. now thats just me.

I think it would be creepy if he still wrote and sang as a twenty-five year old. Shades of Dorian Gray (or Madame Tussaud's). I mean, what if he was still going around in shorts and t-shirts and flip-flops? Okay, I mean c-h-e-a-p shorts, t-shirts, and flips. Also, I firmly believe that we are going to see Jimmy crank up his song-writing now that he's finished producing his first movie. He has a lot to say. He is still a great observer of life. He still has the same wry sense of humor. Dylan just released a great album. Is it "The Freewheelin' Bob Dylan" or "Blonde on Blonde"? No. Is it still amazing and far above the crowd? Yes. As far the subject of this thread - the audio clips of TTWWY - I thought the clip quality (at B&N) was sub-par. It was really hard to listen to. But, as you say, there seemed to be a lot of variety. Today's RM broadcast will tell the tale for me.tejas wrote:i love jimmy as much as the next guy/girl here, but i just believe he made better music ( as most everyone does ) when he was struggling to get started or still somewhat new to success or when he was going through all of the hard times with jane. it just has no fire/passion to me, almost being sung monotone. now thats just me.

I have to admit after hearing those clips, I'm not so excited about this anymore.
I just think he's to old now, every album since Fruitcakes has been steadily getting worse and worse and Jimmy sounds like he's bored to hell when he's singing. At least the concerts still rock.... I think thats why he has released so many live albums lately. I'll still buy it, but for the sake of us all bubba, add some excitement or give it up.

PHINZ UP!!
