Re: Goodyear workers prepare to go on strike...
Why would union leadership organize a strike if it wouldn't bother the company? Seems like the union leaderships a little off the rocker there....citcat wrote:This is where the hubby works. Pretty much looks like in a few hours they'll strike. The company won't mind.....they have storerooms full of tires, this will be handy for them to get rid of excess tires. And they won't have to pay salaries the whole time the strike is going on. They're trying to take a lot of stuff away from the salaried AND hourly people, which ain't so bad (they're paid pretty well) but what IS bad is they're trying to seriously mess with retirement people's benefits and money. NOT COOL. Gary is salaried, which means he doesn't have the union behind him, which means he's at the company's mercy, which means salaried peeps are screwed.

I'm not sure the union knows that.
It's official: they are now on strike.
Now the salaried workers (hubby included) will be working 10 hour days during the week and 8 hours on Saturday. Thank goodness we'll be on vacation next week. The old man usually sits at a computer all day sceduling stuff, now he'll be down on the floor making tires at one of those huge room-size machines. And coming home all stoved-up, hurting, and tired. He's too old to do that !

Don't be surprised to see more companies dumping retirement plans over the next two years. It started with the airlines and now everyone else wants to follow suit and many companies figure that they have until Bush is out of office to do it.
Good luck with getting through the strike.

nothing like a little corporate welfare while claiming fiscal conservancy and compassionate conservatism thru smaller gov't.The Lost Manatee wrote:Don't be surprised to see more companies dumping retirement plans over the next two years.
