this absolutely amuzes the crap out of me at the responses.

Jimmy doesn't owe us an explaination.

Why be shocked at Jimmy who defintely used drugs in the past and by some close to him say he still does partake in the doobie.

Truthfully there are way worse things he could do.

It's all France's fault. 8)

Jimmy needs to stick with Paris, TN instead of France. They DO have a smaller version of the Eiffel tower and there are several bars, one strip joint and an adult toy store....more than enough excitement for anyone. 8)

And, they have a WALMART !!!!!!!!! woohoo ! :lol:

This story/gossip thing has a certain stink about it.....kinda like a bag of burnt hair, three-day-old fish, and fresh turdage. [smilie=blush.gif] :lol:

French Customs Regulations:

1. MEDICATIONS OTHER THAN NARCOTIC DRUGS

French Regulations limit the personal importation of approved prescription medication to personal use amounts.

1.2. Importing medications for personal use in your luggage:

No Import Permit is required, but you should have with you the prescription dispensed by your practitioner and Customs will have to be satisfied that you are not importing more than would be necessary for you personal use, taking into account the drug type and length of stay (for no more than 3 months).

2. MEDICATIONS LISTED AS NARCOTIC DRUGS

The personal importation of medicine listed as narcotic drugs is strictly limited to a personal use amount.

* as for a rule, for the period of seven days only

* for a period not exceeding fourteen days as far morphine, and its salts, is concerned (provided preparations are not intended for injections)

* for a period not exceeding 28 days with respect to the folloing medications: (list of several Rx narcotics follows; the list does NOT include MDMA)

2.2. Importing such medications for personal use in your luggage:

No Import Permit is required, but you should have with you the prescription dispensed by your practitioner.

Narcotics (non-medication) and dangerous drugs are prohibited entry into France. Are included in this prohibition:

-narcotics such as opium, morphine, codeine, thebaine, heroin, methadone and related drugs and substances;
-depressants such as barbiturates, methaqualone, meprobamate, benzodiazepines;
-stimulants such as cocaine, amphetamines and methamphetamines, anorectic drugs, and related substances;
-cannabis (marijuana, herbal cannabis, cannabis resin, hashish, or hashish oil);
-hallucinogens such as LSD, mescaline and peyote, STP, DOB, MDA, MDMA, phencyclidine (PCP) and related drugs.

There are heavy penalties if imported (prison sentences and substantial fines), both for smuggling them into the country (Customs offense) as well as for mere possession, use, and, of course, delivery and sale (General Criminal Law offense). Violators are not in a position to claim double jeopardy and are liable to customs penalties in addition to penalties provided for under general Criminal Law.

If you are traveling to France and need to use prescription-type psychotherapeutic drugs for medical purposes, refer to Medicine.
If you are traveling to France and you are taking part, in Canada or the U.S., in a pilot program for methadone maintenance, you may carry such quantity of methadone as is required for your treatment during a maximum period of seven days, and provided you have a prescription from your personal physician stating that the methadone is being used under a doctor’s direction and as part of a pharmacologic assistance program.
______________

My conclusion: if JB truly had 100 ecstacy pills on him he would have been arrested.

My guess is he was detained for having more of something (prescription or over-the-counter) than what French Customs deemed as appropriate for personal use, or had something unidentifiable (e.g. prescription not in original container) for personal use. This generated the fine.

The 300 Euro fine without arrest just makes no sense for posession of an illegal narcotic.

Maybe a French Customs guy (who had read in APLA50 where JB had enjoyed Colombian herb for dessert in Paris back in the 70s) wanted to see what Jimmy's tastes were these days....
