Troublesome Traders / Vinekillers

Parrotheads are fortunate enough to have a resource like this on BuffettNews to get copies of Jimmy Buffett concerts that are special to them. We are also very lucky to have technologically advanced phriends who are capable of recording them, and then willing to share! I am eternally grateful to each and every one of them, because I've received many very happy memories via this forum! :D

That said, the key to successful trading and vines is for everyone involved to do their part. Unfortunately, not everyone does, and this thread will serve to let everyone know who may not be living up to their end of the bargain.

If you run into someone who does not fulfill their obligation, please list them in this thread, with the following facts:

Name of Trader (BN Screen Name):
Concert Info: Location and date:
Was it a trade or vine:
Length of time with no response (TO or FROM):
How many attempts made to contact via what method:

Thank you!

Thanks

Tiki, I would hate to think I am a vine killer, and I have never been accused of being the sharpest knife in the drawer, but could you please explain how this whole thing works, I have a formitable list that I am willing to share, but my life's motto, " Ignorence is Bliss" might hamper this. I hope I am not the only PH that may be slightly confused, and not exactly technologically savy. Please forgive my ignorence.

To earn the status of "troublesome trader", you would have to be in possesion of a vine for an extended period of time thus holding up the progress of the vine, become unresponsive to any communication to those awaiting the show and/or the seeder and just basically get the show, keep the show and leave everyone else hanging.

Here are some tips for people who want to join a vine:
1) Know how to copy the discs to your computer and/or burn copies to blank discs.

2) Know how to get to your local post office and/or fedex, ups or other mail delivery company.

3) If you are unsure of how to send or what the cost would be, be willing to ask the nice person at the window of the post office, fedex, ups or other delivery company for assistance. Or contact the seeder (one who sent out the master discs) and/or one next on the list for advice.

4) Pay the postage and ship the discs out in a timely fashion to the person next on the list- assuming you have already contacted them for their address.

5) Be responsible enough to communicate with others on the vine, able to burn or copy the show to your computer, treat the show as if it were your personal property and have the common courtesy to mail the master show to the next person on the list.

If you do not, for whatever reason understand one or all of these things, than do not join a vine. If this sounds a little harsh it is because a vine that I started is currently being held hostage as are the rest of the BN'ers on the list due to one person's negligence, disregard for others and just plain ole selfishness.

Too many vines suffer because of people like this. The person who seeds the show puts alot of work into making the discs. First, he/she has to have the software to record, set up their recorder to catch the show in its entirety, edit the show and break it down into individual tracks, print out a cover (if they so choose to do), put a set list in it ( if they choose to do), add a personal note to everyone (again, another personal choice) and ship out a decent sounding recording that they can sign their name to. When you put it into perspective, burning and shipping is the easy part. Have respect for your phellow BN'ers if you plan on joining a vine. Burn, mail and say thank you. That's basically it.

No offense to anyone who is not "technologically advanced". But if you join a vine, at least know the basics of burning a cd.

OK, I feel better now. :pirate:

Name of Trader (BN Screen Name): Tully's Twin

Some times real life gets in the way of BN obligations. Such was the case with Tully's Twin, but he has since made good on them. He should be good to go on future vines.

I'm just starting out with these vines. I think it's very selfish for people to get their copies and then stiff the rest who are waiting. I promise you'll never see my name posted here.

Hopefully we will not see any more names on this list.
I also hope that if anyone abuses a vine again, that person is added. Let's keep our vines running smoothly and avoid troublesome traders/vinekillers in the future.

Name of Trader (BN Screen Name): jamroj28
Concert Info: Location and date: Key West '04 15 cds, wallet, notes
Was it a trade or vine: Vine

Unfortunately on this vine, not only the set of 15 masters vanished, but a wallet and collection of personal notes did as well. He said he never received the package mailed to him via Priority Mail. He only posted once, and wasn't very responsive in tracking him down trying to get answers.

By the way... if any of you run in to difficulties with anyone in this forum, in addition to posting in the appropriate thread, please send me a PM to bring the problem to my attention.

Thank you! :D

I think just the screen name is a waste of time.

once he burns you with one name, hejust makes up another.

I think including the name, street and city of the mailing address would help more. of course he could always use friends info...
