Cayman Islands on a budget
Can it be done for a week for 3 to 4k (not including plane tickets)?

not to sound ignorant, but how many are going for 3-4k for a week? that sounds like a bit of $$ if you are going on a budget. just asking since we were looking at the caymens a while ago, but didn't think it was that much.

Most definitely. It all depends on your"level" of accomodations....We have been staying at the Cobalt Coast Dive Resort on the north shore of West Bay. Real laid back, clean, on the water, pool and Hot tub, small bar and restaurant. Even if you don't dive it is a great place and Ari, the Brit owner will take ggod care of you....A 10 minute drive to 7 mile beach and 15 to Margaritaville......5 minutes from restaurant Papagallo's....Now even cheaper is Cayman Brac....homes from 700-1200 per week on the ocean. Cobalt will run 150-200/night. Suite will run 250-300

Stayed at a place called Treasure Island Resort. It was on 7 mile beach. I think they've recently turned it into all condos though. Like someone else said, there are lots of nice places, and it can be done within a budget. You didn't mention how many of you are going, but there were 3 of us. Airfare from Pittsburgh, room at the resort and a rental car ran me less than 3k. I chose Treasure Island because they had an on site dive shop, and it looked like a nice place, and it was. Next trip down there I want to try Cayman Brac. From what I've heard, the diving is better from there. Eating and drinking on Grand Cayman can get quite expensive, but no more than most other Caribbean Islands. Some "must do's" on GC..........Stingray City (dont let the Steve Irwin tragedy scare you)...they're really quite remarkable creatures to interract with. Check out the Blow Holes on the east end, and of course a trip to Hell is a must. Not really that much there, but a trip to GC has to include it. The turtle farm is not far from hell, and is an interesting stop also. There used to be a great place to eat there called the Cracked Conch, but sadly it was destroyed during hurricane Ivan. There was also a great little local place along 7 mile beach called The Lazy Lizard. Great food, reasonable prices and very Buffetty. Swings for barstools..........LOL.....I kept waiting for someone to fall out of them after having too many boat drinks, but never saw anyone do that. If you like the English type pubs you have to check out Fidel Murphys. I think it was near the 7 mile shops. Theres also a great Texas BBQ place, but the name escapes me. All in all, GC is a very cool place to spend some island time. Just do a little research and I'm sure you'll find the perfect place to enjoy yourself, and not break the bank. Have Fun !!Mots wrote:Reefdiver could you let me know where u stayed

Hey GEED181, I see you're from Sarasota. Man I love that town. Got a few friends that live there and I always stay on Siesta Key when I go down to visit. Is the Sarasota Brewery still open? I love their "Shoeless Joe" pulled pork sandwiches !!! ![coolup [smilie=coolup.gif]](./images/smilies/coolup.gif)

Hi reefdiver....Yes the Brewery is still open. I am on the "oldfart" key of St Armands and don't venture out much. Everything I neeed is within walking distance. We own a retail store..Garden Argosy, right on St. Armands Circle. I am always happy to chat with Buffett fans so stop in next time you are down...Craked Conch on Grand Cayman is reopen and as good as ever...Cayman Brac is a MUST for divers..lots of shore diving right out your door, as well as a Russian destroyer that was scuttled a few years ago and you can swim out to it..real easy diving. I mentioned Cobalt Coast....you can also swim from the dock and out to the north Cayman Trench, I believe it is a 12,000 foot wall....scary. My last visit I asked the "musician" at Cobalt to play some Buffett...he never heard of him. The next night that was all he played for us....really bad Buffett but we sang along and drowned him out !!!!
