UPDATE on the MGM Pool Party

Post by TraderRick »

I swear- getting information from the MGM Grand on this pool party every year is like pulling teeth.

But yes- as always- the pool party is confirmed. I had to go to my production staff source (thanks Chris) They had a meeting over the weekend and this is the buzz..

The party will be starting a little later this year- from 4-7:30.

The band will be the same as last year- Senergy. They are the house band at Margaritaville..but unfortunately they don't play much Buffett. It'll still be fun, though. The band starts at 5:30.

Again- as I've stated before- bring some sort of FOOD to munch on. They will not be serving any food around the pool. There are a couple of venues on the inside food court..but in actuality they are a pain to get to and if you're slamming Coronas and margaritas you will get lost trying to find your way there.

Now this is just my opinion- you can take it or leave it. But basically- the MGM party just isn't what it used to be. They used to have bands like A1A or the Cheeseburgers , they used to have cheeseburgers frying on the grill, and generally they went all out. What I would suggest is spending most of the day at the Margaritaville Street Party 11A-5:30..taking the monorail up to the MGM, getting there at around 6 and spending the remaining hour and half getting ready for the "herd in". That's the best part!

The Street Party might not have the pool but it's definitely got the vibe we all came to enjoy. So there!

And remember..IT'S VEGAS..you can't not have a good time!

Thanks for the info. It's fun to be together with everyone anyways.
'Cause I want to be there, I want to go back down and lie beside the sea there ...

I haven't been to a Vegas JB show since '03, but from the previous pre-parties at the MGM, people had brought in their own drinks. For those of you have done it recently, is this still the case?

Heck, if I can fill up a 64oz big gulp in my room of a tasty beverage and take it to either the street fair or MGM before having to pay for drinks, I'm in.

Can anyone confirm how it was last year?

There should be no problem in either venue (Street Party or MGM). One of my favorite scenes in recent memory is seeing omyhell (a fairly frequent BN poster) dancing trance-like with his famous hat packed with a dual load of his gravity-fed high octane libation mix of God knows what . It's Vegas- what can I say-it's a beautiful thing.

Having never seen Jimmy in Vegas before I defer to you guys. Makes sense to me since Margarittaville is Jimmy's baby.

We didn't care for the pool party at MGM much last year! We had a LOT more fun at the street party.

When they had it at the old amusement park area that was a lot more fun than at the pool. It was fun to see all the crazy people walking around there and much easier to see them. Dancing on the lawn and listening to the music was great fun! We had bets going on who was going to make the drunken plunge into the pool....but to our knowledge no one did. The pool just seems much more "tame" and we all know that tame and JB don't mix well

We'll most likely chill at the food court once we arrive on the journey from M'Ville to MGM and then wait in the "feeding frenzy" outside the arena to get in!!!
Utah is where I live but Vegas is my home.

Who remembers Betty Boop swimming in the huge Margarita at the MGM lawn party one year?

Dang, where did I put those photos?

You're right. MGM parties were a lot more fun in the past with the Conced Out Band playing. Wasn't it?

Trance like state? I thought I carried myself with a quiet dignity and grace! Not sure what wacky hat will be at the show this year, but I hope it can match the class of my prior hats!

A quiet dignity and grace?????????? [or, they were at least acting like ladies at that moment...]

It is not the same by any means....I remember when tommy rocker played, and the stage was at the front of the village, and only about 10'x10'. Remember the giant swinging ride? every once in awhile you look up catch a "fins up" from a rider or a hula skirt or lei flying through the air, classic. wish I could be there and see you all, but the wifey is prego, so maybe spring, right Mr Buffett???

Oh yes, and to avoid the $7.50 Coronas at the street party, walk down the street(1/2 a block on the same side) to the liquopr store and get your own, we have done it every year and no one has ever said anything(if they did, we just laughed in their faces and they crept away). You need to save $$$, cause the arena will rape the s*** out of you on drink prices

Soooo wishin I was going....

here are my thoughts from the pool party last night..

$7.00 beer
$14 burgers

and a band that played everything but buffett...

poor guys on the stilts (yall know who I'm talking about) - people almost knocked them over.

last time I was in vegas was for the far side of the world tour... the pool party was a lot better then

still had a blast!
I must be wishing on someone else's star....
