Everyone needs to remember one thing:
OVER-RATED does not mean BAD.
I personally DO think U2 is overrated. But I like them and have several CDs. But I don't put them in the lexicon of the top bands of all time. They've put out a lot that I DON'T like as well.

Exactly, overrated bands can still be very good, but just not in the Greatest category they get put in (like the Who) or they can really s*** but they are hyped as great (Madonna).
As far as U2, if you erase 1988-2005 they are great, the whole zooropa thing and bono as the fly guy, keep it, that just sucked. But last year's tour had as much energy as they did in 1987.

Never saw the draw of U-2. Never really liked their music. There are a couple of songs that are OK, but to me they are pretty forgettable.
Tim McGraw is a drunken buffoon. Good call on these ones ragtop. Right there with you.

Like another artist many pholks here are acquainted with?
U2's album Zooropa was bizarre, but Joshua Tree & Achtung Baby are 2 of the better rock LP's of alltime. And somebody earlier mentioned Rush being overrated,
Just my 2 cents

To me it's sort of funny to see Parrot HEADS post stuff about The Greatful Dead being over rated

Obviously, Dead Heads our our cousins who enjoy a style of music and are very loyal to a band. Ever heard the expression that some people get it and some don't?

I always thought R.E.M. was way overrated. Off the top of your head try and name 1 of their albums.

with the exception of a very small population (members of this site included) many would say JB is over-rated

1. Any British art rock band like Coldplay...Pretentious and BORING. Not rock. Not fun.
2. Aerosmith - awful, just awful. Saw a concert and it was like watching a
bad circus with Steve Tyler running around with scarves as though he was Shirley McClaine trying to channel a female impersonator. AWFUL.
3. Kenny Chesney - Boring and a Buffett rip off for the frat boy crowd. Pretending you're a Carribean wanderer is silly when u don't know how to sail.
4. BARBARA STREISAND - Gewwwwwwwww. Stupid songs. Stuck up attitude. 1,000 farewell tours. Introducer of the $500 premium ticket price. GO AWAY. Retire like you keep promising!
5. Toby Keith - Yeah we get it. You used to play football, you're a redneck and you are making a fortune with your not very good voice. Jingoistic pap for the professional wrestling crowd. Trying to copy Buffett with his new restaurant chain but wheras Buffett markets a tropical laidback lifestyle, Keith is marketing only himself. I'll be surprized if the restaurants work for him.
