The Salt Salt Salt started at the Marg in NOLA in 1996 when he played Jazz Fest May (my ticket stub is in the case and that's in the truck) weekend debuting new songs from the upcoming Banana Wind LP. I was there and laughed my ass off because it wasn't sung ever before that on the previous, um, since I started seeing JB in 1980 at Meadowbrook near Detroilet, MI. The previous year he did the Last Slice Of Fruitcake Tour which also came through Marg in NOLA and there was not saltsaltsalt at that show.
And some thread a long time ago mentioned they also only heard it first at Marg in NOLA in 1996. I guess they had gone on to see JB somewhere else that year and the salt was starting to happen.
Yeah, I have heard JB sing he'd broken his leg three times. Not that twice is not correct, ha ha...maybe saying three times or thrice just isn't in the...vernacular?
