New Book: Jimmy Buffett - The Key West Years

Post by phjim »

<table><tr><td>Image</td><td>News Release from The Ketch & Yawl Press: A new book titled "JIMMY BUFFETT - The Key West Years" will debut at this year's Meeting of the Minds in Key West, November 2 through November 5th.

Written by Tom Corcoran, Jimmy's longtime photographer and co-lyricist of "Cuban Crime of Passion" and Fins," the 64-page trade paperback includes over three dozen photos from 1971 onward. It's the perfect handbook for fans and Key West visitors. Plenty of "stories we can tell" and details about JB's life away from the rock-and-roll trail. Readers will gain insight to song lyrics, lifestyle, hangouts, and the 35-year love affair between Jimmy Buffett and the city at the end of road.

It's currently available online from The Margaritaville Store, Key West, and it's soon to be in a store near you.</td></tr></table>

OMG :o This is going to be amazing! I met Tom at a small art shop in St Augustine where he autographed some things for me. He talked with me for a good half hour. Told me some very interesting stories and said he was working on a book about him and Jimmy in Key West. I took it with a grain of salt but now HERE IT IS!!! Can not wait for this!

I'll definitely need a copy of this. Tom Corcoran is one of my favorite Florida authors.

Now that he's done with this project, I hope he'll get to work on another Alex Rutledge novel :)

I picked it up. What's in it is fun, interesting, and informative. For $10, I was hoping for a bit more content.

Oh great, so the extra I paid for shipping should depress me even more??

Thanks for the reminder though. I hope it gets here this week.

My thoughts:

Tom Corcoran's new book was interesting with some fun pics, but it contains errors (e.g. 20th Anniversary was 2005 vs. 2004, Jimmy's first residence is incorrect, and it says Jimmy and Jane met at Louie's vs. outside the Chart Room Bar). Overall it seems a rather lazy effort; I felt the book could and should have been much more than it is...too bad. Tom's a nice guy though and said he's working on his next Alex Rutledge mystery.

Maybe it will be available at Margaritaville as I will be visiting one in late January...

...I could pick it up for the cost of airfare instead of shipping.

Why does that sound perfectly rational to me?

I met Mr. Corcoran at the Miami Book Fair on Saturday and got him to sign a copy of the book for me. Tom's a helluva nice guy and though the book is a little light on content it's definitely a must-have for any hard core Parrothead (is there any other kind?).

(when Tom came by the Moore Books booth I introduced myself and mentioned we'd met at a writer's conference in July. Told him I didn't know if he'd remember me since I was currently wearing an odd hat. "I'm used to being around Parrotheads and a cowboy hat with a rubber shark on it is nothing." )
