I voted when I got home last night and didn't have to show ID. There were 3 people ahead of me on line and one of them asked the volunteers how the turnout was. They said we were up to 278 out of 785 registered voters. With the 3 people in front of me, me and 2 more people behind me that's 284 people (36%) with less than an hour to go before the polls close. Pathetic. To quote the late, great cartoonist Walt Kelly of Pogo fame We have met the enemy and he is us.

If you can believe a State Board of Elections website, only 12% of registered voters in North Carolina voted. THAT is pathetic.

Of course I voted!

I was raised that it was not my Right, but my Responsibility to vote...and that bad politicians are elected to office by good people who don't vote...

It's just what I do.

Although...the move to Australia is looking pretty good after reading the paper today....had some upsets here in Florida...and that's all I'm gonna say about that...do not want to get in to the political arena here....

I couldn't agree with you more. I had voters show up that were 90 years old, who came with their walkers, in their wheelchairs or however else they needed to come, but they came. I had new citizens, excited about their first opportunity to vote.

But I also had way too many people in my precinct decide, for whatever reason, that they did not want to take advantage of this right (I consider it a responsibility) and I find that pitiful.

D*mn right I voted. We're so complacent in this country. If we're not careful, we could lose the precious right to vote.

damb right I voted. Took me over an hour due to the much contested senate race here in TN that was won by what I hope is the lesser of the two evils.

You betcha I voted!

If you have your voter registration card, you don't need any other ID.

Unless things have changed, if you are listed on the precinct roster, all you need is proof that you still live at the address, which could even be a recent utility bill or a D.L.

I didn't even have to show a voter registration card. I told them my name, they found it in the book and I signed in.

One? You were lucky!!! I got at least three calls a day for three weeks, including three on election day. The governor, George Bush and someone else who said their name before the recording started -- What a waste of time! Just stopped answering the phone without looking at caller ID.

Oh, and I voted. Helped my mom vote too!

Do they at least check to see if your signature matches your voter registration form? We do, but if they don't in your area, that would definitely bother me a lot!

They didn't check anything. And my signature looks nothing like it did when I first registered to vote back in 1972.

I didn't need ID either, but I live in a small town where I knew everyone at the polls. I'm surprised that others don't have to show ID especially places like NYC; I was under the impression that it was just our town...
I live in a small town where the poll workers knew me by sight too, and we still had to show ID.

I had a couple of voters whose signature was nothing like their registration (circa yours) and I did ask for a photo ID just to verify. (Not entirely sure that I could legally have required it, but I asked, and they were more than willing to comply)

If I need a photo ID to get to the elevators in the building where I work, I should have to show photo ID before I can vote.

Can't disagree with you on that!

If I believed that everyone that registers voters was trained as well as I was, and was as fussy with IDs as I am (don't mean to sound quite that arrogant), I would be less concerned. But I know that does not happen.

I had someone show up who said he registered by mail, which was confirmed to me when I called the Board of elections, Those voters are required to show a valid ID---he had an expired driver's license with the wrong address on it--I would not allow him to vote (though I told him he could vote provisionally and have the county decide it, which he did---he will lose on this one)
