Congratulations to the Dems.

I was kind of suprised to see how little has been posted regarding yesterday's election, so let me be the first to say this...
Congratulations to the Democrats on taking the House and (most likely) the Senate.
Although I have deep misgivings about the way forward on several issues, the voters have spoken, and as a conservative, I'm looking forward with hope.
Here's hope that the Republicans will reform themselves, rooting out corruption, returning to fiscal discipline and moderation.
Here's hope the new Democrat majority will govern with wisdom and integrity. The newest members seem to be of the Truman Democrat/ Scoop Jackson Democrat mold - perhaps they can bring reasonableness and moderation to their party, as well.
Here's hope that the executive and legislative branches will find a way to work together for the good of the nation.
Best wishes to all.

Great post krusin1!
I hope Nancy realizes the importance of her position and the opportunity and responsibility that should go with it and not just continue the nasty partisan politics. Yes, I am from Califonia.

Nancy's approach has always had the "keep friends close, enemies closer" flavour to it by the looks of it:

I expected a full-on flame-war rampage to take place.

Maybe everybody is waiting to see the final outcomes.

Maybe I'm just a wide-eyed optimist, but although I expected some posts, I'm really not surprised about the lack of flames.
Something that has always amazed and impressed me about our country is that we historically have held to the tradition of being gracious after a political loss. Even in Florida in 2000, there wasn't violence, and the transfer of power occurred in an orderly and respectful fashion.
Thankfully, I've yet to hear a losing candidate go to the microphone and in the concession speech talk about what a dumb SOB his/her opponent is, and how stupid the voters must be to elect him.
Maybe, even in the age of extremism, we're holding to one last vestige of civility... I hope so, anyway.

WOW.
Very well said Krusin!!
As a Jeffersonian liberal on social issues and a Goldwater conservative on fiscal issues I share your hope.
It's interesting that most of my rad-con wing nuts co-workers are awfully quiet. Let's hope there's less division,, no more "I'm more American than you" BS and we can refind the UNITED part of our name.

But I would like to see Joe Lieberman rip the Democratic leadership a new blowhole after the way they threw him under the bus.

no... I live in a state where it is legal to buy cigarettes, but illegal to smoke them in a public place.

As a conservative Republican, I was not overjoyed with the outcome, however I think for the most part it was expected. Maybe that's why there hasn't been a full out war of words today. I really like what I'm hearing from the winners and losers, and sincerely hope the Dems back up what they're saying. I also think it helps that a great majority of winners are moderate, although Nancy scares me A LOT! I don't want to come off as being too cynical here because I'm not, but it's setting up to be gridlock at it's worst.

Oh yeah, and I forgot to say that this was the first time in....I can't remember, that I voted for a democrat. Bill Nelson or Katherin Harris. You don't have to be a rocket scientist to figure that one out!!

I expect both sides to continue on their paths that will continue to tear apart America. Their agendas on both sides are all about their own political aspirations and NOT of the people of this country. The democrats wan to give away money from hard working Americans to those that don't want to work and just want a hand out and the Republicans just want to spend money on anything like there is a bottomless pit.

I think the number of moderate Dems winning is a good news/bad news thing for the Dems. They got the numbers but they don't have an agenda. (Dean was silent on Chris Matthews last night) I believe the extreme factions of the party expect actions. I don't think the moderates will act as the far left desires. Nancy Pelosi will have problems getting her party to agree to a platform.
Personally I am hoping that the party sees that moderates are electable and move in that direction. I also hope that the republicans get back on track and smooosh the dems in 08.

Their mantra throughtout the campaign was "We're not the Republicans." It got them elected but I hope some of them have an idea or two now that the election's over.

You are a perfect example of what happened. The GOP lost the support from within. I think this was a greater factor than people running out to vot for the Democrats.

now that we have proven who are democrats and who are republicans, can some of them please prove that they actually are politicians and make this country work again

I have to be somewhat hopeful that with all that is at stake, particularly with Iraq, both sides will try to find some common ground and work together rather than continue to rip each other apart. And yes, I know I may be too optimistic, but a girl can dream, can't she???
