I guess I missed these discussions the first time around but I saw Jared Tyler open for Malcolm Holcombe in Durham, NC over the weekend and was blown away by his version of "Reggabilly Hill" which was the closing number of his set. I got a chance to speak with him afterwards and he was very cordial in regards to questions about Michael Garrett's original recording and Buffett's cover from Take the Weather With You. Jared also served as Malcolm's accompanist during his performance. If you're unfamiliar with Malcolm Holcombe, I highly recommend him. He's the type of artist that is very raw, real and intense. Sort of like a cross between Tom Waits and John Prine and therefore someone that doesn't really have the sort of musical appeal that draws a mass audience (unfortunately). Malcolm and Jared are currently on tour in Tennessee and Virginia before taking off to Europe in September. If you have the opportunity to see them I strongly suggest checking out one of their shows, it's quite the experience.
