Ed Bradley Dies of Leukemia
Ed Bradley, a close friend of Jimmy Buffett died on Thursday from leukemia
From the New York Times: "Ed Bradley, Veteran CBS Newsman, Dies"

Though Mr. Bradley had largely concealed his illness, he and his wife, Patricia Blanchet, had reached out in recent days to some of his closest friends — including Charlayne Hunter-Gault of National Public Radio (who traveled to his bedside from her home in South Africa) and the singer Jimmy Buffett (who rushed to New York to be with him following a concert in Hawaii).
Mr. Buffett said he told Mr. Bradley on Wednesday that “the Knicks and the Democrats won,” eliciting a smile from Mr. Bradley, who by that point could barely speak. Mr. Buffett and Ms. Hunter-Gault were part of a close-knit circle gathered at Mr. Bradley’s hospital room at the time of his death.
“I made the mistake once of letting him get onstage with my band, and he never stopped doing it,” the singer Jimmy Buffett, a friend of Mr. Bradley’s for 30 years who was also with him when he died, said in a telephone interview today. Mr. Bradley had many nicknames throughout his life — including “Big Daddy,” when he played football in the 1960’s at Cheyney State College in Pennsylvania — but his favorite, according to Ms. Hunter-Gault and Mr. Buffett, was “Teddy Badly,” which Mr. Buffett bestowed on him on stage the first time Mr. Bradley played tambourine at his side.
“Everybody in my opinion needs a little Mardi Gras in their life,” Mr. Buffett said, “and he liked to have a little more than the average person on occasion.”
“He was such a great journalist,” Mr. Buffett added, “but he still knew how to have a good time.”

But a friend sent it to me.

Well said. I agree completely.fishinthepilins wrote:I've always respected Ed Bradley and his work, but only today in retrospect begin to appreciate what a truely inspirational pioneer he was. I'm grateful to have observed his career.

I read another article that said he had pneumonia.Quiet and Shy wrote:Complicated infection from leukemia...if it was sepsis (highly likely) I sure hope he was treated with Xigris before it was too late....![]()

This is getting close to being on.Quiet and Shy wrote:I had the privelege and opportunity to watch Larry King talk with the 60 Minutes crew this evening (rebroadcast at Midnight ET). Steve Croft, a personal friend as well as co-worker clearly grieved Ed Bradley's loss. But there was laughter along with the sadness as Mike Wallace, Andy Rooney, Don Hewitt, and Bob Schieffer also recounted stories of their deeply-respected colleague. And more than one sniffle was audible following Aaron Neville's "Stand By Me".

Yeah, frequently it all becomes sepsis (e.g. that's what killed Jim Henson). I worked on Xigris for 2 1/2 years. It's the only treatment for sepsis (vs. managing symptoms), but it's probably the most under-used drug in the country...mostly due to bad politics.SchoolGirlHeart wrote:I read another article that said he had pneumonia.Quiet and Shy wrote:Complicated infection from leukemia...if it was sepsis (highly likely) I sure hope he was treated with Xigris before it was too late....![]()

What a loss....
(As I no longer work for the company I can more freely share my frustrations on this.)
It's a tragic loss that came way too soon.

We have watched "60 Minutes" without fail for the past zillion years. I love Ed Bradley. He was such a wonderful journalist and storyteller. I will really miss him. Just this past Sunday, I said to Alan (hubby). "He sounds awful! But he looks ok. Maybe he just has a cold. I hope he doesn't have any problems."
The interview with Mohamed Ali was good. They were showing a very small part of it tonight. For those that never saw it, they were sitting around a table, Bradley, Ali, Ali's wife and a couple of others. Ali is a real jokester. He pretended to be having some problems from the boxing and Parkinson's (I think it's Parkinson's that he has). I mean he does have problems, but he was exagerating them. He was sitting at the table, almost in a stupor. Ali's wife, in on the joke, told Bradley straightfaced that he had to be careful, that her husband would suddenly think he was in the ring and start boxing. Almost right on cue, Ali began jabbing at Bradley. Bradley looked alarmed and kept dodging Ali's fist. It wasn't until he saw them smiling that he caught on. Bradley was good-humored about it, as always.
May he rest in peace and may God comfort his family and friends. (It seems Jimmy has lost quite a few of those close to him the past couple of years.)
Sail on, Ed!

Ed Bradley was a cool cat. I feel bad about this. A sense of loss.
